Job Description:

The Physician Assistant Program at Marietta College is seeking an adjunct faculty member for a 9-week Gross Anatomy course which includes both lecture and lab. This course runs June 17th through August 16th. The primary responsibility of this position will be anatomical education for physician assistant students. The applicant will be present for delivery of donors and set up of lab the week leading up to the start of class and attend a new cohort orientation, June 10th-June 14th. The applicant will also oversee return of the donors and clean up of lab at the conclusion of the course. Preference will be given to individuals with experience teaching a laboratory-based human gross anatomy course. Successful applicants are expected to demonstrate knowledge in cadaveric dissections and prosections.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

In final stages of PhD candidacy with a minimum of 3 years' experience as TA in gross anatomy dissection course.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Earned terminal degree (PhD, DO, MD, DSc), or degree in hand by start date, in one of the anatomical sciences or closely related fields or equivalent professional training.

  • Teaching anatomy in a medical school or health professional school.

  • Working in a team with students and/or faculty groups.

  • Design, implementation and evaluation of anatomy curriculum in a health profession school environment.

  • Use of lecture, small group, lab, PBL and other non-lecture-based teaching methods.

  • Use of technology-based approaches to teaching anatomy.

  • Use of cadaveric specimen-based approach to teaching anatomy.

  • Familiarity with learning management systems for curriculum delivery (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard,).

  • Familiarity with exam item writing, Examsoft or similar.

  • Experience with medical curricular and instructional.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position:

  • Teaching human gross anatomy and human developmental anatomy to physician assistant students.

  • Working with a team of faculty in evaluation, innovative development and integration of anatomy curriculum aimed at lecture and non-lecture-based learning for physician assistant students.

  • Lab management duties related to gross anatomy including, but not limited to, preparing, maintaining and organizing teaching specimens and teaching materials, including but not limited to human cadavers, prosections, anatomy models, computers and dissection tools.

  • Carry out regular cadaver and specimen inventory inspections.

  • Provide suggestions to course directors and school leaderships as it relates to curricular development and implementation with anatomy education.

  • Maintain anatomy dissection lab integrity such as equipment, tools, facility, etc. and organize tools and other laboratory supplies.

  • Provide oversight and guidance for teaching assistant and work collaboratively with the part time anatomist.

  • Develop and implement board style written and practical examinations including practical exam set-up.

  • Participate in student mentoring.

  • Attend weekly program meetings during summer semester.

Additional Information:

We are seeking a collaborative colleague who will contribute to the educational team. Teaching duties will include curriculum development as well as gross anatomy (including lecturing, small group facilitation, and laboratory teaching).

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. Campus housing due to short term relocation can also be discussed.
