The Director, Environment, Health, Safety (EHS) will provide strategic leadership regarding all aspects of EHS in our Wilmington manufacturing facility. The role-holder will influence and collaborate with stakeholders across the site to establish business-integrated strategies, management systems and programs that drive a world class culture of EHS excellence, continuous improvement, reduced environmental impacts and enhanced sustainability.

The role-holder will ensure compliance with relevant regulations and corporate policies. In addition to site responsibilities, the Director, EHS will participate on corporate teams to share knowledge and experience to support the company in achieving its strategic objectives in a safe, sustainable, and efficient manner. The Director, EHS will participate on the Wilmington Operations Leadership Team.

They will report directly to the VP, EHSS, Sustainability, Facilities (global), with a day-to-day reporting line (dotted) to the site’s Senior Director, Engineering & EHSS. Responsibilities Oversee the evolution of the Wilmington site EHS strategy including sustainability efforts; establish long term plans, collaborate with key stakeholders to establish annual goals and programs of work. Influence and collaborate with colleagues across site to embed a self-sustaining EHS culture.

Sponsor, advance and evolve the site’s behavioral risk program (CaRE®) and Human Organizational Performance (HOP) initiative. Lead the development of the site sustainability strategy, work closely with cross-functional leaders to progressively and cost-effectively reduce facility environmental impacts, including: reduced greenhouse gas emissions, energy and water use; reduced waste generation, and optimized recycling/ circularity; evaluation of nature-based solutions. Influence and coach colleagues across the site to enhance workforce engagement, ownership, and continuous improvement across EHS and sustainability considerations.

Ensure compliance with relevant legislative (OSHA, EPA, permits) and corporate requirements. Routinely measure the efficacy of results through leading/ lagging metrics and internal audits; communicate lessons learned from investigations and other sources of information e.g., gap analyses, risk assessments. Oversee programs that reduce site EHS risk, including (but not limited to): process safety; flammable solvent handling; potent compound containment and handling; industrial hygiene; chemical and biological safety; occupational health.

Coach and develop the site EHS team, implement individual development plans to enhance technical and soft-skills and facilitate career progression opportunities/ succession planning. Implement effective EHS and sustainability risk management methodologies for operations and projects at all scales, including (but not restricted to) new product/ equipment introductions. Instill a lifecycle-based gatekeeping approach for change management to ensure efficacy of identified risk controls.

Oversee the resourcing and efficacy of site emergency and crisis management plans. In all areas of activity, seek to evaluate, implement and demonstrate best industry practice.

Prepare budgets and forecasts; ensure financial discipline; drive efficiencies and identify/ implement opportunities for measurable value-enhancement.

Ensure documentation is prepared, controlled, and updated in-line with relevant regulatory requirements, including OSHA, EPA, and cGMP. Qualifications Qualifications-Associate Director, EHS Experience: A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in an Environmental, Health & Safety leadership capacity ideally gained in process or pharmaceutical industry – Minimum 8 years in a leadership capacity.

Leading and implementing the EHS management system Skills/Abilities: Have a strong understanding of EHSS regulatory requirements and technical codes of practice.

Particularly OSHA, EPA and DEA facility requirements and regulations in a cGMP environment Excellent interpersonal, communication, influence, planning, organization, and time management skills.

Strong leadership abilities with energy and enthusiasm.

Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Operational Excellence and Lean Six Sigma methodologies is preferred.

Qualifications-Director, EHS Education: Bachelor degree in engineering or a science-related field. Experience: A minimum of 10 years relevant experience in an EHS leadership capacity, ideally gained in the pharmaceutical or chemical industry.

Competence, in-depth knowledge, and practical experience of implementing effective EHS management systems with demonstrable results. Deep understanding of what it takes to create a strong EHS and sustainability culture; proven experience delivering results in complex manufacturing settings. Strong record of EHS regulatory compliance; ideally understands cGMP requirements.

Experience in implementing sustainability strategies that reduce environmental impacts, including (but not limited to): greenhouse gas reductions, energy efficiency, waste reduction and circularity, water use optimization, biodiversity. Skills/Abilities: In-depth knowledge of EHS and sustainability regulatory requirements and technical codes of practice.

Particularly OSHA, EPA, and other regulations, as well as demonstrated proficiency in Process Safety Management for flammable liquids and Potent Compound handling and containment. Excellent interpersonal, communication, influence, planning, organization, and time management skills.

Strong leadership abilities with energy and enthusiasm.

Proficient in MS Office software programs including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with Operational Excellence and Lean Six Sigma methodologies preferred. Other Requirements:
