TITLE: Physical Education Teacher Trainable Mentally Impaired Program
QUALIFICATIONS:
1.Must have full approval by the State Board of Education as a teacher in physical education.
2.Has approval in the area of Adaptive P.E. or is working toward approval in this area.
3.Water Safety Instructor, plus Lifesaving Certification.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Establish a program of developmental and perceptual motor activities designed to optimize the student's gross motor efficiency.
- Provide the opportunity to develop and maintain optimum physical fitness through activities utilizing the components of flexibility, agility, strength, speed and special emphasis on cardiovascular endurance.
- Provide opportunities for the development of primary sport, recreational and leisure time skills. The concomitant positive attributes of physical development, social interaction, self image, and self-confidence are an integral part of sports and recreation activity.
- Establish a swim program of sequential skill development, safety training and recreation.
- Ascertain the need for supplies and equipment and develop a physical education budget plan.
- Provide consultation to physical education teachers with regard to special physical education techniques, approaches and materials to use with individual and/or groups of special populations.
- Participate in building Individual Educational Planning Committee meetings when appropriate.
- Gather and disseminate information regarding health, physical education, recreation and safety to staff, administrators and parents whenever relevant.
- Establish a gross motor assessment and evaluation battery to determine student efficiency and program effectiveness.
- Delineate gross motor performance objectives to be incorporated into an individual educational plan of physical education.
- Create an evaluation design involving periodic testing, review of ongoing individual progress, criterion referenced factors, normative statistical factors (used as an external control to measure program effectiveness), and subjective, affective behavioral transfer.
- Provide comparable physical education service delivery between trainable mentally impaired students and same-aged non-handicapped students with emphasis on meeting the special needs of the TMI.
- Maintain the confidentiality of personally identifiable information as required under the Family Rights and Privacy Act.
- Other duties as assigned by a supervisor.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10 months
EVALUATION: Annually
