Summary:
Provide a modified physical education program to special education students who cannot be mainstreamed in regular physical education classes. The adapted physical education teacher will also serve as a consultant to various faculty members and school personnel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Performs assessments of referred students for perceptual motor, coordination, strength and endurance
Develops long-term goals and short term objectives for each child.
Provides an adapted physical education program for each child based on physical needs
Consults with family and other teachers of goals and on-going individual programs
Maintains records as mandated by state, federal and school board guidelines and policies.
Provides in-service to aides, attendants and teachers upon request
Provides participation opportunities for each student in appropriate special olympic activities
Other Duties:
Other duties as assigned that are related to the functions of the position.
Essential Functions/Qualifications/Requirements:
Education and Experience:
Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college/university approved by the state department of education. Must possess a current Louisiana Teachers Certificate. Certified in Adapted Physical Education or Physical Education with a plan of professional development in adapted physical education.
