The Actuary, Global Projects contributes to the development of enhanced short-term and long-term projection capabilities for the consolidated RGA enterprise. Develops and maintains systems and processes related to embedded value, economic capital, financial planning and budgeting, capital planning, tax planning, and asset/liability management. Interacts with other RGA departments and offices to ensure that department work products are portrayed correctly, understood, and completed in a timely fashion.

Responsibilities

  • Works to enhance the Company's projection and planning infrastructure.

  • Provides technical expertise with respect to embedded value, economic capital, and principle-based reserving.

  • Provides technical expertise with respect to relational databases and actuarial software.

  • Provides assistance to the business segments with respect to validating and managing their projection data.

  • Participates in the development and enhancement of underlying processes and recommends improvements.

  • Performs management duties including, but not limited to, hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Fosters a positive and engaged work environment. Mentors associates and gives guidance on associate development.

  • Works to ensure that all lines of business and company risks have been modeled in a reasonable, accurate, and repeatable manner.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree in Math, Finance, Statistics, Actuarial Science, or a related field

  • FSA accreditation

  • 7+ years of actuarial experience in life insurance

Preferred:

  • MAAA accreditation

  • CFA, CERA, or other such financial risk management designation

  • Stochastic modeling and/or asset liability modeling experience

  • Experience in embedded value reporting and/or economic capital determination

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Advanced PC and technical skills, including database applications (Access, Oracle, SQL or equivalent technology), spreadsheets, statistical programs and actuarial software

  • Highly advanced oral and written communication skills, demonstrating the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well received

  • Highly advanced level of investigative, analytical and problem solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and to work well within a team environment and participate in department projects Expert ability to balance detail with departmental goals/objectives

  • Advanced skills in customer relationship management and change management

  • Highly advanced ability to translate business needs and problems into viable/accepted solutions

  • Highly advanced ability to manage multiple projects and/or teams simultaneously

  • Highly advanced ability to liaise with individuals across a wide variety of operational, functional, and technical disciplines

  • Highly advanced persuasion and negotiation skills when working with internal/external customers.

  • Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to work effectively with different disciplines, including pricing, investments, accounting, systems, and administration.

  • Highly advanced ability to model various insurance products and reinsurance structures.

  • Highly advanced project management skills. Demonstrates an ability to evaluate project objectives and scope for feasibility and understanding.

  • Highly advanced level of people management skills, demonstrating the ability to lead, mentor, and develop associates; including the ability to delegate key areas of responsibility

  • Expert knowledge of life, health, and annuity products.

  • Expert knowledge of GAAP, Statutory, and Tax valuation and financial reporting.

Preferred:

  • Expertise in MoSes, TAS, VIPiTech and/or AXIS

  • Understanding of asset and liability modeling techniques

  • Ability to program in visual basic or equivalent

  • Reinsurance industry and product knowledge

The Assistant Actuary, Global Research and Development, supports and performs research into emerging topics of interest to RGA's global offices and clients. Create meaningful and professional reports to support research methods and findings. Supports the creation of RGA and client-based experience studies and reports. Responsibilities * Conducts sound research on behalf of RGA with the goal of studying current and emerging topics of interest to any of RGA's global offices or clients to include, but not limited to experience studies, competitive analysis, market trends, profitability studies, and many others. * Creates well-organized, accurate, informative and professional looking research bulletins/reports clearly documenting our methods and findings on a variety of topics. * Provides miscellaneous actuarial analysis and support for multiple departments/divisions within RGA. * Assists in the creation of RGA's internal studies of mortality and persistency experience for both the U.S. Experience Studies team and the International Experience Studies team. * Maintains regular and predictable attendance. * Performs other duties as required.
