Actuarial Services Advisor, Insurance and Actuarial Advisory Services

Support actuarial and insurance advisory engagement teams providing services to clients in the health insurance industry. Focus areas including estimation of or evaluation of traditional health insurance unpaid claim liabilities and/or health benefits unpaid claim liabilities for self-funded employers.

Manage and motivate teams of professionals with diverse skills and backgrounds. Consistently deliver quality client services by monitoring progress. Demonstrate in-depth technical capabilities and professional knowledge. Maintain long-term client relationships and networks. Cultivate business development opportunities.

Full time employment, Monday

  • Friday, 40-45 hours per week, 8:30 am

  • 5:30 pm.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related, and 5 years of post-bachelor's progressive combined related experience in:

  • an actuarial role within a consulting firm providing services to Health Insurance companies; and/or
  • an actuarial role in a Health Insurance company.

Alternatively, will accept a Master's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related, and 4 years of combined related experience in:

  • an actuarial role within a consulting firm providing services to Health Insurance companies; and/or
  • an actuarial role in a Health Insurance company

Must have 2 years of experience in performance and/or review of company calculations of non-lag-based health insurance liabilities in any combination of two of the following:

  • Provider bonuses, incentives, and risk-sharing

  • Premium deficiency reserves

  • Minimum loss ratio / risk corridor liabilities

  • Risk adjustment receivable/payables

  • Stop loss liabilities

  • Disabled life reserves (e.g., group disability, group life waiver, etc.)

  • Active life reserves (e.g., individual disability, supplemental health, etc.)

Must have passed 3 actuarial exams towards attaining a Fellowship in the Society of Actuaries (FSA) designation.

Travel required approximately 80% to meet client needs.

The Role You will have the opportunity to significantly grow your health and benefits business acumen as well as your actuarial, project management and client relationship skills by working on cutting edge projects at one of the world's leading actuarial consultancies. * Materially contribute to core health and benefits projects involving the design and management of group medical, dental, life, disability and time off benefits for large, complex clients, including * Benefit plan analysis, design, cost savings and funding strategies * Vendor procurement, negotiation and optimization * Incorporation of specialized health management, absence and disability management, pharmacy, data analytics and compliance strategies * Partner with Consultants to deliver superior project management on select clients * Perform financial analyses including developing pricing and employee contributions strategies, modelling plan design alternatives, completing actuarial valuations, and calculating reserves * Conduct benchmarking studies and other research; provide value added analyses and summaries * Analyze and compare vendor products, services and contracts * Design, distribute and evaluate responses to surveys and RFPs * Build relationships internally and collaborate effectively on cross-functional teams * Review analytical work, mentor and develop junior level staff * Contribute to the development of new intellectual capital The Requirements * 3+ years' experience dealing with the financials of health and benefit plans, ideally gained in a benefit consulting/brokerage firm or health underwriting / actuarial function of an insurance company * Proven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and produce quality deliverables on time and within budget * Flexibility and proven ability to identify and resolve issues * Strong client service orientation and ability to respond to all communications effectively and in a timely manner * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Self-starter attitude and ability to work individually and as part of a team * Strong analytical, creative and integrative skills * Desire to mentor/develop more junior staff * Excellent Microsoft Office skills, particularly in Excel and PowerPoint * State Life and Health license required within 90 days of joining * Bachelor's degree required, preferably with significant quantitative course work * Significant progress towards completion of health actuarial designation EOE, including disability/vets Willis Towers Watson New York NY
