Our Specialty Lines Actuarial department is seeking an Actuarial Consultant or Associate Actuary* to join our growing team in our Worcester, MA Corporate Headquarters, or remote work location.
This is a full time, exempt role.
POSITION OVERVIEW:
This position will play a key role in the Hanover Specialty Property & Casualty actuarial practice, including conducting profitability analyses, portfolio management, planning, and product development. This pricing role will be primarily focused on the $118 million Excess & Surplus (E&S) business unit. This position reports to the Actuarial Director of Specialty Property & Casualty.
This is a highly visible position, working closely with the E&S leadership team, Claims, Finance, and the broader actuarial and analytics community. Pursuit of FCAS professional designation preferred.
IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:
Lead analysis in support of overall pricing strategy including continued advancements in E&S pricing and portfolio management
Conduct regular profitability analyses & present findings to underwriting leadership partners
Play a supporting role in the actuarial planning process, including IBNR forecasting, trend analysis, and rate actions
Balance influencing and negotiating skills with thoughtful collaboration to achieve sustainable, profitable growth
Pursue opportunities leveraging internal and external data to drive continual improvement of pricing
Remain nimble in working with the unique aspects that come with pricing and monitoring E&S business
Provide support for and aid in implementation of product and platform enhancements
WHAT YOU NEED TO APPLY:
Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant technical field
Five or more years of technical experience in multiple LOB and/or actuarial disciplines such as pricing, reserving or advanced analytics
Near-ACAS designation or higher or relevant work experience
Advanced communication skills
Advanced skills using Microsoft Office, including Excel
Possesses a detailed understanding of the data sources used within the core discipline
Understands fundamental concepts, practices and procedures relevant to core actuarial discipline
Intermediate programming skills, including the ability to develop and automate processes
Able to apply and interpret company policies and procedures
Has complete ownership over work product and timeline, including prioritization of responsibilities and projects while meeting deadlines
