River Oaks Hospital, located in metropolitan New Orleans, Louisiana, is a private psychiatric facility for adults, adolescents and children. Since 1970, River Oaks has established a tradition of excellence in the treatment of acute psychiatric illness, dual diagnosis, alcohol and drug detoxification, trauma based disorders, compulsive behaviors, and eating disorders, River Oaks has provided quality treatment to service individuals suffering from mental illness, and/or addictive disorders. Situated on a 14 acre campus, services are available at all levels of care (inpatient, day or partial hospitalization, outpatient, and intensive outpatient).
River Oaks Hospital is seeking a dynamic and talented MUSIC THERAPIST. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Provides activities and service for all patient population within the assigned groups and area of specific expertise.
Assesses patient's leisure, social, and recreational abilities, deficiencies, interests, barriers, life experiences, needs, and potential;
Provides in-depth Music Therapy assessments of each patient where additional information is requested through analysis of the non-verbal medium;
Establishes relevant and attainable goals for the patient which, reflect the assessment date;
Plans and assesses patient's progress treatment and discharge needs through attendance at staffing updates;
Contributes to interdisciplinary treatment plan at initial staffing;
Demonstrates the knowledge, judgment, and technical skills required to employ activities for patients to develop, maintain, improve, restore, or maximize function and compensation for dysfunction;
Sets appropriate limits in response to undesirable physical and social behavior;
Takes initiative to re-evaluate the patient's status at appropriate intervals as indicated by individual needs;
Deals effectively with a variety of patient diagnoses and age groups;
Records patient's treatment goals and progress in Activity Therapy on the patient's medical record, and co-signs student intern's documentation;
Communicates effectively with treatment team member, patients and other hospital staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor degree in a related field; with specialized skills development; (i.e. music, etc.)
Two (2) yrs experience in hospital / psychiatric/ mental health or special developmental needs setting
Certification or registration in area of expertise required
Provide service to all populations while demonstrating the Service Excellence Standards
