Resident Activity Assistant organizes and participates in person-specific activity programming, including one to one interventions, small group facilitation and large group presentations. Capable of documenting individual participation and value of approaches in medical record.

Qualifications:

Education:

High School Diploma or Equivalent State-specific certification as an Activity Assistant Preferred

Licenses/Certification:

Certified Recreation Therapist, Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant or Activity Assistant Certified (NCCAP or state-specific) or State Tested Nursing Assistant preferred

Experience:

Prefer minimum of 500 hours of experience in activity programming in any setting prior to hire preferred.High School or Equivalent.Acceptable areas of in-service education. Essential Functions: Assists the resident activity director as needed.Utilizes the environment to provide both comfort and stimulation to the resident population.Fosters a sense of community within the center environment.Leads and participates in individual and group activities.Utilizes a variety of models to achieve individualized programming, such a pet therapy, music therapy, art therapy, etc.Assists with decorating the facility and preparing for special events and seasonal parties.Develops and posts monthly calendar as a planning resource for residents and families.Participates in recreational programs for residents confined to their rooms.Promotes volunteer efforts in the community.Maintains records of activities and attendance.Stores activity equipment and supplies and cleans area after conclusion of the activity.Utilizes the biopsychosocial model to support resident well-being.Provides or arranges for comfort/support to residents and families when needed.Performs other tasks as assigned.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

Demonstrated willingness to learn new modalities and approaches. Good listener.Builds rapport easily.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with other disciplines.Good communication skills, both verbal and written.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Able to work with residents/families facing end of life issues.

This concept actively focuses on achieving and maintaining optimal physical, mental, and psychosocial functioning. Restorative nursing interventions, except for use of Coninuous Passive Motion (CMP), do not require a physician's order. Qualifications: Education: § High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Licenses/Certification: § Graduate of a state approved nursing assistant training program and passed a state approved competency examination (written and skills) within 120 days of employment; name entered into state nurse aide registry. Experience: § Six months experience in a long-term care environment preferred. Essential Functions: § Under the supervision of the licensed nurse, initiates rehabilitation/restorative nursing interventions when: § A resident is discharged from formalized physical, occupational, or speech rehabilitation therapy, or § A resident is admitted to the center with restorative needs, but is not a candidate for formalized rehabilitation therapy, or § A restorative need arises during the course of a custodial stay § Performs rehabilitation/restorative nursing interventions that assist or promote the resident's ability to attain his or her maximum functional potential: § Range of Motion (Passive) § Range of Motion (Active) § Splint or Brace Assistance § Training and Skill Practice § Bed mobility § Transfer § Walking § Dressing or grooming § Eating or swallowing § Amputation/prosthesis care § Communication § Continuous Passive Motion (CMP) § Documents measurable objectives and interventions in the care plan and in the clinical record. § Promotes resident's ability to adapt to and adjust to living as independently as possible. § Instructs the resident in self-care activities according to the resident's abilities. § Instructs the resident in the use of assistive devices for transferring, walking and mobility, dressing and grooming, eating and swallowing § Provides range of motion, proper turning and positioning in bed and chair. § Instructs the resident on the care and use of prosthetic and orthotic devices. § Incorporates training and skill practice activities which include repetition, physical or verbal cueing and task segmentation. § Reports observations and other pertinent nursing rehabilitation/restorative care information to nursing supervisor. § Documents objective information related to the provision and resident response to nursing rehabilitation/restorative care in accordance with existing policies, procedures and guidelines. § Participates in the ongoing review and development of the nursing rehabilitation/restorative care and interventions. § Participates in the identification of staff and resident educational needs related to nursing rehabilitation/restorative care.
