POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Executive Director and Health & Wellness Director, this position is responsible for the senior adult programs (AOA programs) and ensuring the program goals and objectives are met. The incumbent provides day to day direction and supervision to all areas of the senior wellness, recreational and social programs.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist with the coordination of the operation of Active Older Adult Programs under the direction and guidance of the AOA cabinet, including:

  • Promotion of quarterly field trips

  • monthly lunch and learns/doc talks

  • monthly social events, and weekly on-going social activities

  • Association Events and Initiatives

  • Maintain safety of related program areas, supplies and equipment.

  • Provide assistance with phone calls, emails, and other forms of communication that support the MIA initiative, AOA program launch, and evidence-based program registration/adherence.

  • Maintain programs to YMCA standards by being aware of compliance regulations set forth by supporting agencies such as YUSA, Silver Sneakers, 3rd party medical providers, and partner agencies whose expertise is senior wellness care.

  • Assist with developing, coordinating, and scheduling a minimum of one signature special event annually that is scheduled appropriately with the other branches' signature social event.

  • Responsible for coordinating senior connections appointments, tracking completion, and maintaining a goal of 30% of new Provider Based members completing a senior connections appointment monthly. This will be measured on the balanced scorecard and as a performance indicator on annual reviews.

  • Responsible for completing AOA newsletter and calendar monthly.

  • Increase member participation in senior programs and member retention of 3rd party payors membership types by 3% annually. Outcomes will be measured by a monthly scorecard which will include tracking seniors' facility usage with a goal of 18% of 3rd party members attending the Y a minimum of 10X per month. In addition, branch participation goals for will be set annually for social activities, doc talks, and events.

  • Teach a minimum of 2 wellness classes weekly to AOA's: Silver Sneakers, Chair Yoga, Zumba Gold, Aqua Fitness etc.

  • Facilitate Evidenced Based Programs that have been designed primarily for the AOA population (LIVESTRONG at the Y, Enhance Fitness, BPSM Silver Sneakers, etc).

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ABUSE RISK MANAGEMENT FUNCTIONS:

  • Follows employees and volunteers screening requirements and use screening instruments to screen for abuse risk.

  • Provides employees and volunteers with on-going supervision and training related to abuse risk.

  • Provides employees and volunteers with regular feedback regarding their boundaries with youth.

  • Requires employees and volunteers to adhere to policies and procedures related to abuse Respond quickly to policy and procedure violations using the organization's progressive disciplinary procedures.

  • Responds seriously and confidentially to reports of suspicious and inappropriate behaviors.

  • Follows mandated reporting requirements.

  • Communicates to all employees and volunteers the organization's commitment to protect their consumers from abuse.

  • Reports essential abuse risk management information to their supervisor, executive director, or human resources.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 4 years of experience working in Health and Fitness programs and minimum of 1year of experience supervising staff or 1year as a YMCA lead staff. Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, fitness or related field is preferred.

LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively with groups of customers or employees of organization.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Nationally Recognized Group Fitness Certification Ex: AFAA, YUSA, ACE, (required)

  • CPR/First Aid, and AED within 30 days (required)

  • YMCA Principles of Member Health and Wellness within 30 days (required)

  • Nationally Recognized Senior Fitness Certification within 60 days of employment: Silver Sneakers, Zumba Gold, AEA Water Fitness etc. (required)

  • Nationally Recognized Personal Training Certifications Ex: ACSM, NASM, NACA, ACE (preferred)
