Positionentailsworking under the direction of a research engineer/scientist in using appliedresearch and development (R&D) processes and techniques for investigating,designing, and developing new innovative methods, products or materials forproviding a solution to a specific problem in areas that may include but arenot limited to component and systems engineering electronics, electromagnetics,electro-optics, cybersecurity, information systems and threat systems. The work may encompass elements in one formore of the areas of electronic warfare, radars, antennas, electro-optics,secure information and communications systems, prototyping, robotics, unmannedand autonomous systems, test and evaluation, modeling and simulation, and humanfactors engineering. This role involves research,testing, development of equipment, software code or processes and evaluatingthe results through statistical analysis.
Undergraduateresearchers often collaborate on teams plus contribute individual work effortto the overall project. May work acrossdiverse fields of engineering or science.

Mayuse tools ranging from computer-aided design software used to simulate designperformance to sophisticated microscopes used to observe chemical interactions.
Mayprovide suggestions to improvements or provide recommendations during theresearch and development (R&D) process.
Withdirection from a research engineer/scientist, may write summaries of structuraltests, participate in presenting product performances to project managers orcustomers and may assist to prepare process manuals and guidelines.
Mayprovide input or technical support or guidance and technology transfer forimproving overall performance.
Withdirection from a research engineer/scientist, may assist in grant and othersponsored funding application preparation.
Withdirection from a research engineer/scientist, may conduct research on assignedarea and participate in literature searches.
Mayprovide information to be included in budget estimates for supplies, workeffort or equipment and make necessary recommendations.
Establishand maintain strong working relationships with administrative staff, fellow studentsand research engineers/scientists.
Participatein the collection of researched information and evaluate it by statisticalmethods.
Participatein or assist in the monitoring and review of applicable patent literature.
Education:Completion of some college coursework in the pursuit of a degree in engineering,science or related field.
Experience: Coursework or lab projects in engineering,science or related; participation in projects that required research, analysisof information and presentation of findings or conclusions, eg., research paper
Certifications: May require ability to obtain andretain a Department of Defense security clearance
Familiaritywith various engineering or science research techniques, procedures, andmethods.
Basicclassroom knowledge of physical sciences, biological sciences, computersciences, or engineering principles.
Teamplayer with good communication skills.
