ASSESSMENT CENTER: July 17, 2024 (In-Person)

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING:

An employee in this position, under direction of the Assistant Chief of Professional Standards, will gather and analyze data from various sources, monitor and measure compliance to established performance standards, establish reporting schedules, and make recommendations to resolve non-compliance issues and/or findings for the Apex Fire Department (AFD). This position will assist with research and development, creation, implementation, and evaluation of various documents related to fire department accreditation and will provide administrative support to various program managers to ensure continuity and structure of program appraisals, creation of new programs, and sustaining current programs. This position will assist with various portions of the strategic planning process and will facilitate gathering feedback from various parties to evaluate programs provided by the AFD. This position will also participate in preparing and presenting staff reports and data visualizations as requested by program managers and automate processes, when applicable. The employee must stay abreast of trending fire accreditation practices by attending continuing education courses on a pre-determined schedule. This position requires considerable independence, judgement, and ability to make decisions in all aspects of their work.

Works under the general guidance and direction of the Assistant Chief of Professional Standards. Has no subordinates and limited supervisory direction within this position.

A SAMPLE OF THE ESSENTIALS:

  • Assists the department's accreditation manager with evaluating and maintaining the department's Standards of Cover & Community Risk Assessment (CRA-SOC), Strategic Plan, and Self-Assessment Manual (SAM).

  • Develops, conducts, and evaluates periodic program appraisals that assess the effectiveness of all AFD services and programs. Will also research and develop new programs, as needed.

  • Assists in managing the process of developing and maintaining guidance documents for the AFD SAM.

  • Maintains and updates the administrative functions of various records management systems (RMS) to ensure quality data is produced for reporting.

  • Assists with the development and administration of program budget needs to ensure funds needed for staffing, equipment, etc. are available to maintain the department's accredited status.

  • Assist in identifying department efficiencies and deficiencies through the data analysis of fire, medical, technical rescue, hazardous material emergencies, and non-emergency services provided by AFD.

  • Participates in recruitment activities, department sponsored events, and be involved in town and county related committees. Must foster cooperative-working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Provides various methods of data analysis using GIS, RMS, and Computer-aided Dispatch (CAD) systems.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

High school diploma and 3-5 years of progressively responsible experience in office administration, data analytics, fire accreditation, strategic planning, and records management.

Possess certifications of completion for or have reciprocity documentation for:

  • NIMS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, and 800

  • CPSE Quality Improvement for the Fire and Emergency Service Course

  • CPSE Peer Assessor

  • NFA NFIRS Program Management

  • Possession of a valid North Carolina driver's license

WITH...

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of fire accreditation through the Commission on Fire Accreditation International (CFAI).

  • Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, fire records management systems, report writing, and National Fire Incident Reporting System (NFIRS)/National Emergency Response Information System (NERIS).

  • Thorough knowledge of departmental rules and regulations.

  • Knowledge of the application of information technology to fire service and management.

  • Skill in collaborative conflict resolution, problem-solving, team work, and customer service excellence.

  • Ability to plan and execute special projects and various administrative tasks.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and members of the public.

  • Ability to prepare and maintain a variety of records, data visualizations, and reports.

WHAT WOULD SET YOU APART:

Associate's or Bachelor's degree from an accredited college in a general professional or technical field, or any field that fire chief or his/her designee approve.
