Job Summary
The Accounts Specialist III is mainly responsible for reconciling financial reports, data entry, preparing journal entries, verifying payment-related supporting documentation, and distributing vendor, student, and payroll checks.
Duties & Responsibilities
Reviews accounting records, ensuring data is current and accurate
Reconciles financial reports and ensures that all transactions are accurately recorded, and discrepancies are promptly resolved
Prepares journal entries
Works closely with the Accounts Payable function as it relates to the review and maintenance of payment-related supporting documentation
Distributes vendor, student and payroll checks and coordinates special mailing requests, as necessary
Answers phone calls in a professional and courteous manner
Provides support to Property Accounting with the maintenance of tangible personal property subsidiary records
Provides support as needed in a wide variety of functions, with emphasis on handling multiple projects
Handles and researches College issued checks returned by the post office
Performs other duties as assigned
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or G.E.D. equivalent from a regionally accredited institution and four (4) years of successful accounting experience; or Associate's degree and two (2) years of related experience; or any equivalent combination of education and experience
All degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution
Knowledge and understanding of the College's organization, goals and objectives, and policies and procedures
Knowledge of the principles and practices of accounting and the ability to apply this knowledge to work situations
Knowledge of the laws, rules and regulations concerning financial record keeping
Ability to exercise independent judgment in solving problems
Ability to prepare complete and accurate accounting statements
Ability to maintain complex records, to assemble and organize data
Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
Ability to speak effectively to provide customer service to students, employees, or organizations
Ability to interpret and follow a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form
Ability to work in a multi-ethnic and multi-cultural environment with students, faculty and staff
Preferences
