Job Title: Accounts Receivable Position

Status: Non-Exempt Full Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm

Report to: Controller


High School Diploma or GED.

Must have current Oregon Driver's License and acceptable driving record.

Must be able to be approved by the background criminal history unit.

Proficient in accounting procedures and have a strong accounting knowledge base.

Requires ability to use a computer and utilize/navigate the internet, email and database systems.

Ability to manage high-volume transactions

Requires a highly organized, detail-oriented individual who can successfully multi-task and consistently meet deadlines.

Well-developed, critical-thinking capabilities

5 years experience in Mid-Sized accounting software

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Ability to interact on a positive basis with all levels of staff and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The following is a list of major duties and responsibilities for this position. It is not all-inclusive. Other duties and responsibilities may be added as needed and, in addition, management as appropriate may modify this job description.

  • Assist in maintaining current accurate financial information for use with reporting using appropriate fund accounting methods (e.g., GAAP)

  • Code and enter cash receipts into the general ledger (Sage 100).

  • Work closely with other departments to maintain positive customer experience throughout the billing process to meet deadlines.

  • Prepare invoices and reports as directed by the fiscal standardize procedures and or funder inquiries format/template via website or direct with funders via email.

  • Accurately reconcile the balance for various accounts receivable, aging and collection reports.

  • Follow up with program managers and update them for outstanding receivables.

  • Monitor accounts receivable variance on delinquent accounts and take corrective action when necessary and inform funder for timeline payment as needed prior to contract end.

  • Collaborating with other billing team member for adjustment or credit memo timely.

  • Help with G/L account reconciliation and month-end closing, other ad hoc projects.

  • Works closely with the Controller on revenue recognition and allocation and maintains financial security by adhering to internal controls.

  • Participate in strategic planning for the Shangri-La

  • Represent and advocate for the organization in the community.

  • Engage in organization capacity-building activities.

  • Attend staff meetings.

  • Adhere to Shangri-La regulations and guidelines.

  • Provide excellent customer service to all Shangri-La customers including Shangri-La clients, staff, donors, logistics personnel, agency personnel, volunteers, board members, and the general public.

  • Engage in the following tasks or behaviors that represent excellent customer service: timely responses, punctuality and attendance, treating others with respect, distributing quality product, being knowledgeable and providing accurate information, and using appropriate non-verbal and verbal communication.

  • Attends and participates in required in-service training and meetings.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities * Oversees individual staff performance, including quality and provides training support and performance improvement plans as needed. * Supervises productivity and ongoing improvement to key revenue cycle indicators including A/R aging, days outstanding, bad debt ratio and billing and appeal timeliness. * Conducts routine account activity quality audits to ensure accounts are being worked appropriately. * As a subject matter expert in billing and billing scrubbing technology, works with the training team to build best in class training plans. * Acts as a technical expert with regard to financial class responsibility and answers questions raised by clients and team members. * Prepares reports and logs as needed. * Reports any detected trends in payments or denials and identifies procedural issues to make recommendations for improvement. * Defines and provides the necessary support and leadership to achieve team and department goals. * Functions as the liaison for senior project management in coordinating billing efforts and addressing billing and reimbursement matters. * Provides assistance/resolution to external and internal client inquiries. * Maintains knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact patient accounting. * Supports nThrive's Compliance Program by adhering to policies and procedures pertaining to HIPAA, FDCPA, FCRA, and other laws applicable to nThrive's business practices. Qualifications * High school diploma or GED. * At least three years of experience in healthcare insurance accounts receivable follow up, working with or for a hospital/hospital system with more than 250 beds, working directly with government or commercial insurance payers. * At least six months of experience coaching, mentoring, supporting or supervising other colleagues. * Experience identifying billing errors and resubmitting claims as well as following up on payment errors, low reimbursement and denials. * Experience reviewing EOB and UB-04 forms to conduct A/R activities. * Knowledge of accounts receivable practices, medical business office procedures, coordination of benefit rules and denial overturns and third-party payer billing and reimbursement procedures and practices. * At least three years of experience with accounts receivable software. * Experience navigating payer sites for appeals/reconsiderations, benefits verification and online claims follow up. * Ability to facilitate and influence decisions by motivating others to achieve excellence in both the quality of work and their approach to teamwork. * Strong project management skills in managing short-term project related work. * Proven knowledge and experience in governmental, legal and regulatory provisions related to collection activity. * Demonstrated subject matter expertise in insurance company practices regarding reimbursement with the ability to translate knowledge into training, supporting performance excellence. * Demonstrated ability to navigate Internet Explorer and Microsoft Office, including the ability to input and sort data in Microsoft Excel and use company email and calendar tools. * Demonstrated success working both individually and in a team environment. * Demonstrated experience communicating effectively with payers, understanding complex information and accurately documenting the encounter. * Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve goals. * Demonstrated ability to meet performance objectives Preferred Skills * Experience with Epic, Meditech, Cerner, Invision, Paragon, Soarian, Collections Management or STAR. * Experience with both hospital (facility) and physician (pro-fee) A/R.
