Proper Hospitality is seeking an Assistant Controller at Montauk Yacht Club, a 107-room luxury property set to debut within The Collective. Spanning 35 acres on Montauk's Star Island, Montauk Yacht Club offers waterfront views, a private beach, three pools, multiple dining options and over 200 wet slips that can accommodate boats from small day cruisers to 300-foot superyachts. Holding eight decades of East End history as an elite social club and thoughtfully reborn for the modern traveler, guests can expect classic East Coast architecture, well-appointed interiors and detail-driven amenities.
As the Assistant Controller, you will be responsible for managing the financial transactions of the hotel, ensuring accuracy, timeliness and compliance with company policies and procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the accounts payable and accounts receivable processes, including invoice processing, payment scheduling and collections
Review and verify invoices, purchase orders, contracts and other financial documents for accuracy and completeness
Maintain vendor and client relationships, addressing any inquiries or issues in a professional and timely manner
Coordinate with department heads to ensure proper coding and authorization of invoices and expenses
Prepare and analyze financial reports, including aging reports, cash flow projections and reconciliation statements
Implement and enforce internal controls to safeguard hotel assets and prevent fraud or errors
Manage the cash flow of the hotel, including monitoring bank balances, preparing cash forecasts and initiating wire transfers or other transactions as needed
Assist with budgeting and forecasting processes, providing insights and recommendations to improve financial performance
Collaborate with the accounting team to ensure accurate and timely month-end and year-end close processes
Stay up-to-date on relevant accounting regulations and industry best practices, recommending changes or improvements as necessary
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required; CPA or equivalent certification preferred
Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable or general accounting role, preferably in the hospitality industry
Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, Sage, or similar platforms; experience with property management systems (PMS) is a plus
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial data and trends
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with colleagues, vendors, and clients
Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy and efficiency in all tasks
Ability to multitask and prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment
Knowledge of relevant accounting principles and regulations, including GAAP
