Position Summary

Flexible work arrangements, including virtual/hybrid work locations, are an integral part of the School of Medicine's Working Forward initiative. As such, this position's work location is designated as remote. Please note that the designated work location is subject to change based on the unit's business needs.

The primary purpose of this position is to work independently performing accounting duties and overseeing all aspects of the assigned accounts to include: all post-award issues, reconciliation of expenditures, interpreting allowable expenses, monitoring and approving account transactions, and reporting. Additional requirements include: ability to monitor account balances, provide routine monthly status reports, and when necessary, provide immediate reports to upper management if problems are identified; determine compliance with pertinent guidelines, rules, regulations, and laws; establish and maintain effective working relations with representatives of related on-campus and external funding agencies, department staff, and the general public; communicate effectively in both oral and written form.

This person must be able to organize, prioritize and work under deadline pressure; display decision making ability and excellent judgment in dealing with a variety of financial accounts including: Contracts and Grants and Overhead. The candidate must be a team player with a strong work ethic and the ability to interact effectively with faculty, staff and students in a dynamic, fast-paced academic and research environment.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or equivalency and one year of experience in accounting work; or equivalent combination of training and experience.

Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Word, Excel and email/calendar software packages. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills.

Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience

Experience with PeopleSoft. Experience in a higher education environment, UNC Chapel Hill experience a plus.
