Duties
The following are the duties of this position at the GS-07. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.
As an Accounting Technician, you will:
Review routine, complex and unusual documents to verify accounting data, mathematical accuracy and to perform reconciliation of accounts.
Perform account reconciliations; processes, certifies, records and reports receipts and expenditures accurately, efficiently, and in compliance with governing regulations.
Determine and initiate necessary accounting transactions, enter data into an automated accounting system, compare accounting transactions to source documents and corrects invalid or erroneous entries.
Perform research of current transactions, historical data, source documents, etc., to identify significant changes and determine related transactions and causes, to take and or coordinate corrective actions as needed.
Provide customer service regarding status of transactions to customer agencies and vendors.

A one-year probationary period may be required.
Must successfully complete a background investigation. Periodic reinvestigation is required no later than five years after selection and at least every succeeding five years.

Qualifications
You must meet the following requirements within 30 days of the closing date of this announcement.
The experience may have been gained in either the public, private sector or volunteer service. One year of experience refers to full-time work; part-time work is considered on a prorated basis. To ensure full credit for your work experience, please indicate dates of employment by month/day/year, and indicate number of hours worked per week on your résumé.
