The Accounting Technician I position is located within the NC Department of Adult Correction (DAC) - Controller's Office. The Travel Accounting Technician performs accounts payable duties with a significant portion of time devoted to processing hotel direct bills, employee's travel, and non-travel related reimbursements. This includes auditing and processing hotel and employee payments for all DAC Divisions.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Receive and audit employee reimbursements in accordance with Accounts Payable Policy, Travel Policy, and OSBM Manual

  • Analyze request for appropriate documentation, CNTR001, CNTR003, and CNTR005 etc., approvals and accounting structure

  • Process direct and matching invoices for payment

  • Work with divisions, units, and/or sections to resolve issues prior to processing payment

  • Validate account, budget fund, and agency management unit to ensure expenses are accurately posted to financials

  • Verify supplier/employee documentation to supplier/employee in NCFS to ensure payment is disbursed correct supplier and site

  • In accordance with fiscal policy, this position will reimburse hotels for direct bills

  • Review supplier statements, request invoices, identify, and resolve issues prior to payment

  • Research and resolve issues with duplicate payments and credits

  • Effectively communicate with DAC staff, suppliers, auditors, and manager, etc.

This position is eligible for a flexible/hybrid telework schedule under the State of NC Telework Program.  

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Demonstrated understanding of accounting principles and processes

  • Experience with recording, compiling, summarizing and/ or analyzing data

  • Demonstrated knowledge of Excel spreadsheets functions (such as, importing/exporting data, VLOOKUP, data sorting etc.)

Management Preferences (preferred but not required):    

  • NCFS or Oracle based accounting experience

  • Proficiency in communicating effectively both orally and in writing

  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and explain policies and regulations

Associate degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution

OR

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of experience in accounting work (OR) equivalent combination of education and experience

Department of Adult Correction is one of the largest state agencies with more than 19,000 employees.
