This position will perform various technical accounting services necessary for successful Department of Corrections (DOC) financial operations, including but not limited to offender financial transactions, staff payroll, business expense reports, special purpose accounts, and other duties. This position will effectively control, analyze, audit, and prepare appropriate accounting records and reports on a daily and monthly basis.
Job responsibilities include:
Maintain the Offender Trust Financial System (iTag) on a consistent basis ensuring all offender financial transactions are properly accounted for in an accurate and timely manner, and in accordance with DOC policy and Generally Accepted Accounting Principals (GAAP).
Analyze, process and pre-audit bi-weekly employee payroll ensuring all employees are paid accurately and timely and in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, state and federal laws, and DOC policy, in addition to supporting appropriate record retention on behalf of the agency.
Analyze, process and pre-audit Business Expense Reports ensuring all employees are reimbursed accurately and timely and in accordance with collective bargaining agreements, state and federal laws, and DOC policy.
Perform DOC finance, reporting and general office duties so that the financial services department are assured of efficient operations.
The following qualifications are required of all applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) sufficient to analyze, interpret, and prepare financial information, records and reports; locate errors; and recommend solutions to procedural or other fiscal problems.
Knowledge of SEMA4, iTag, or other private or governmental accounting system, sufficient to query and compile records and reports, including financial status reports.
Working knowledge of electronic spreadsheets, word processing software, computers and other office equipment such as calculators.
Mathematics skills sufficient to calculate, review and reconcile data and balance accounts.
Ability to design, interpret and explain work procedures and operations and provide advice on fiscal policies and procedures.
Ability to read and write a variety of materials in English.
The following qualifications are strongly desired of applicants seeking consideration for this position:
Associate's degree or higher in Business, Accounting or an Accounting related field.
Experience with the SEMA4 staff payroll system.
Experience with the iTag offender accounting system.
One (1) or more years' experience processing employee payroll for a large governmental agency or large business organization.
Attention to detail and high degree of accuracy in working with numbers and crucial recordkeeping on a daily basis.
Organizational and multi-tasking abilities.
