This position is located in the Small Business Administration, Denver Finance Center, Administrative Accounting Division in Denver, CO. This Accounting Technician examines, verifies, maintains and prepares-for-input a variety of accounting transaction data relating to administrative and programmatic accounting.

Processes transactions for the administrative accounting division by examining and verifying the accuracy of the authorizing documents.
Computes amounts as needed, schedules payments, maintains accounts and updates various systems such as Government On-line Accounting Link System (GOALS}, Oracle system information, other entries and IPAC.
Provides customer service for Oracle and IPAC.

Travel Required

Occasional travel - Occasional night and weekend travel may be required.

GS-07: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, obtained in either the private or public sector: examining, verifying, maintaining and preparing for input a variety of accounting transaction data related to payment processing. Hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday with occasional Mondays and Tuesdays until 6:00 p.m. Position is subject to video surveillance via camera at all times when within the Cashier's Office or immediate vicinity and will complete annual certification of compliance with cashiering procedures. Applicant selected for hire will be required to acquire working knowledge of and the ability to utilize Banner, via training provided subsequent to hire. Description of Job Duties: Position is located in the Cashier's Office at the Littleton Campus. Position will utilize excellent customer service skills on a daily basis while interacting with students and departments in accepting payments and deposits at the Cashier window. Primary duties and responsibilities include: assist students in successfully navigating the payment process, organize and verify daily batches, process credit card refunds, perform complete and accurate opening and closing drawer counts following internal cash control guidelines, identify discrepancies and make corrections or adjustments, provide change to requesting departments, etc. Verify and record payments received at the window, through the mail, via phone, or electronic bank transfers (EBT's) made by students or third party payers for tuition and fees. Correct posting errors made by Cashier staff. Monitor the cash drawer and petty cash box. Maintain spreadsheets to track charges, payments, and delinquent accounts, place holds on accounts as needed. Review and verify identification of recipient and ensure all appropriate documentation required is received prior to disbursement. Maintain strict confidentiality of student information received at the counter. Ascertain correct charges to student accounts for tuition and fees. Ascertain correct student account balance used for budgeting in monthly payment plan. Evaluate and verify detail codes, item codes, payment codes and FOAP's for departmental cash receipts postings. Evaluate and monitor the deferred payment plans by recording, scanning and indexing the deferred payment plans and ensuring timely payments are being run for auto payments. Back up other Cashier positions and assist in completing duties such as gathering collection and appeal backup, student refund issues with third party refunding vendor, posting EBT's, researching mail checks, contacting students before refunds go stale, answering general Cashier emails, and other necessary duties as they arise. Answer incoming calls on main phone line when off window. Design and update processing procedures related to processing, batching and cash handling. Utilize State Collections Procedures, State Fiscal Rules and Statutes, and Generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) in daily duties. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office 2016 applications to include Word to compose correspondence, reports, edit and distribute memos, etc., utilize Excel to create spreadsheets, tables and formulas and manipulate data in spreadsheets to maintain records and Outlook to maintain calendars and appointments, and Banner for a variety of tasks. Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights Minimum Qualifications: Two years of technical accounting experience which includes previous cash handling experience. Do not use "SEE RESUME" statements on the application; your application must be completed in detail documenting your experience. Resumes will not be read in lieu of a properly completed application. The accounting and cash handling experience must have been performed as a main function of the job. Daily interaction with students, faculty and staff requires that this position have strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills. Candidate must have experience providing customer service and interfacing with a variety of people from many levels within an organization and community. Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for success in this position. (Part time experience will be pro-rated) Substitution: Two years (60 semester credits) of college, university or non-correspondence business school course work from an accredited institution which included eighteen (18) semester credit hours of accounting may substitute for the two years of technical accounting experience but will not substitute for the cash handling experience. You must submit a copy of transcripts verifying the required credits by application deadline in order to be considered. Necessary Special Requirements: Must submit to and successfully complete a preemployment background check as a condition of hire. Position is required to annually certify compliance with Cashiering Procedures and have an annual background check.
