Requirements for Applying

QUALIFICATIONS Operate a typewriter keyboard accurately at a speed of not less than 45 words per minute. Submit with your application a typing certificate for 45 wpm on a 5-minute timed test from an accredited agency (online or internet testing will not be accepted). Any combination of training, education and experience that demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability to perform the duties of this position.

A typical qualifying entrance background is journey level experience performing automated payroll record keeping involving 100 or more employees in a data processing environment and preferably in a public education setting. Completion of high school supplemented by course work or training in computer technology. Knowledge of procedures and practices of payroll preparation, verification and record keeping work; applicable laws, rules, regulations, and principles; statistical record keeping procedures.

Perform automated payroll related record keeping; accurately maintain and update automated records. Prepare and file in a timely manner accurate summaries and reports. Work under the pressure of recurrent deadlines with frequent interruptions.

Compare numbers and detect errors. Read, understand, interpret and apply laws, rules, regulations, and contracts. Make arithmetical calculations with speed and accuracy.

Explain complex laws, rules, regulations, and procedures concisely exercising tact, understanding, and diplomacy. Desirable: Bilingual in English and in Spanish, Cantonese and/or Vietnamese

TESTING TESTING IS REQUIRED. The Garvey School District Written Test will be scheduled on a future date.

Position Overview: This is a Senior Accountant position in the Controller's Department, within Southern California Edison's (SCE's) Finance Organizational Unit, reporting to the Senior Manager of Power Procurement Accounting. The successful candidate will specialize in accounting, financial reporting and regulatory recovery of SCE's $5 billon annual energy procurement costs. You will regularly collaborate with SCE's Energy Procurement & Management, Risk Management and Law departments to assess the appropriate accounting of energy procurement transactions. The Senior Accountant will work across several software systems, including commodity management platforms and SAP, and will work to recommend and implement process improvements to refine business processes and drive efficiencies across organizations. Typical responsibilities: * Assess energy procurement contract originations and amendments under US GAAP to determine if new contracts and contract amendments should be classified as leases, derivatives or executory contracts, and if they constitute variable interests. * Perform monthly accounting close impacting multiple California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) regulatory balancing accounts and related cost recovery mechanisms utilizing data derived from various Energy Procurement Management commodity management systems and databases. * Partner with IT and business unit stakeholders to ensure the completeness and accuracy of the interface between a Commodities Management Platform and SAP. * Perform regular maintenance of the account mapping of various systems and interfaces, such as configuring new energy procurement transactions and troubleshooting posting errors, as well as proposing and/or supporting any future improvement. * Prepare quarterly and annual SEC, Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) and CPUC reports related to energy procurement transactions. * Support recorded cost information for annual and tri-annual CPUC regulatory proceedings. Minimum Requirements: * Bachelor's Degree or higher in Accounting or related field. * Five (5) or more years of experience in Accounting or related field. * Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and document Generally Accepted Accounting Principles. * Experience performing account reconciliations and variance analysis. * Proficiency with SAP or similar enterprise software. * Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and experience working with large amounts of data. Desired Qualifications: * Certified Public Accountant (active or inactive). * Experience in a public accounting firm and/or regulated utility * Ability to join multiple tables via Standard Query Language (SQL). * Experience with robotics and business process automation. * Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively communicate accounting issues and business processes to peers, clients, management and other organizations. * Ability to work in a team setting to analyze information and develop solutions to a variety of accounting and accounting systems issues. * Strong ethics, leadership and interpersonal skills. * Ability to follow Edison safety protocols and safe work practices.
