Accounting Technician III

DEQ has an open opportunity for an Accounting Technician III.

This position currently qualifies for a hybrid telework option with routine office and remote workdays. The NC Department of Environmental Quality trusts our employees to be self-motivated and successful in hybrid/remote roles. Telework options are subject to change at the discretion of management.

This position reports in the Office of the Controller's Federal Grants Management Team and manages several processes related to the Department's special funds, including applications, billing, drawdowns and awards. It supports the work of the Financial Operations Supervisor and Federal Grants Accountants by assisting them and providing back up to their duties and manages access to systems that are related to federal grants.

Key Responsibilities:

• The employee will collect and assemble documents for complex internal accounting processes, such as indirect cost allocation plans, internal and external billings.

• Assist Federal Grant Accountants with the review of financial reports and with other federal grant reporting needs

• Assist the division through the management and access upkeep to various federal grant reporting and administrative websites

• Assist the Controller and Financial Operations Supervisor on special projects as needed

The Division of Financial Services:

The Financial Services Division is a centralized organization committed to provide a variety of accounting, financial, budget and purchasing activities for DEQ. Responsibilities include a broad range of departmental accounting functions in the following areas: accounts payable, accounts receivable, budgeting, purchasing, maintenance of the accounting systems, federal funds administration, contract management, and financial reporting.

Recruitment Range:  $34,396 - $48,036

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

• Demonstrated knowledge of accounting methods, procedures, and/or accounting practices.

• Demonstrated knowledge of technology, financial systems, and/or software packages to create/maintain data.

• Demonstrated experience interpreting, and/or applying laws/regulations pertaining to financial records.

• Demonstrated experience researching, identifying, and/or resolving discrepancies in accounting transactions.
