This position functions as an Accounting Technician within the Accounts Receivable Other Remittance and Processing Branch, supporting the daily depository, billing, and collection processes. Considerable judgement is required to ensure transactions are recorded in accordance with internal control processes, accounting and budgeting procedures, GAAP, GASB and statutory requirements. This position is responsible for the following duties (not all inclusive):

  • Prepares budgetary control entries for deposit entered into the North Carolina Financial System for various DHHS divisions

  • Maintains cash receipts logs

  • Assists with preparing special reports

  • Works directly with DHHS Office of the Controller personnel, DHHS Division staff, Department of Revenue and various entities to ensure timely deposit, certification and General Ledger recording of NC DHHS receipts

  • Analyzes and reconciles payments received to ensure correct deposit information is given to the cashier daily

  • Assists with month end balancing of the North Carolina Financial System

  • Maintains information pertaining to the type of money being received, account coding and contact names

Qualified applicants must possess, and application must clearly reflect work experience that demonstrates the following:

  • Proven experience applying general accounting principles and concepts

  • Demonstrated experience balancing and reconciling accounting transactions/records, and financial reporting

  • Proven experience with an online accounting system

  • Experience working in Accounts Receivable

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word

Management Preferences

  • Demonstrated experience communicating, both orally and written with employees, agency representatives, and the public

Associate's degree in Accounting from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience in accounting

OR

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of experience in accounting work

OR

An equivalent combination of education and experience
