Duties
Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:
Examines and maintains accounts and accounting data;
Classifies accounting transactions including verification of accuracy and completeness of accounting data;
Summarizes transactions and prepares control documents or other posting documents reflecting the entries to be made;
Determines errors and makes adjustments in the correct appropriation to a variety of interrelated accounts;
Prepares reconciliation of the general ledger to subsidiary accounts, accruals, entries, etc.
Reconciles accounting systems;
Maintains control of funds obligated and funds expended;
Ensures timely preparation of all reports as requested;
Analyzes general ledger accounts to ensure accurate reporting;
Performs other directly related duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

Qualifications
TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION AT THE GS-05 LEVEL, APPLICANTS MUST MEET THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must have at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-04) in Federal Service that has given you the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of an Accounting Technician GS-05. Specialized experience includes reviewing, verifying, and maintaining control of funds; examining accounts, analyzing data, and classifying accounting transactions; maintaining, reconciling, and closing accounts; determining and correcting errors to a variety of interrelated accounts; researching, reconciling, and preparing reports and statements.
NOTE: Experience must be fully documented on your resume and must include job title, duties, month and year start/end dates AND hours worked per week. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week.

EDUCATION: You must have successfully completed four (4) years of education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite.

COMBINATION: You must have equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education (in excess of 2 years) combined with specialized experience to meet total experience requirements.
