Duties of this position:
The Alaska Department of Fish and Game is recruiting a full-time Accounting Technician 1, to provide administrative support to the Wildlife Conservation division located in Fairbanks. Under general supervision from an Administrative Officer I, and working independently, this position is responsible for providing accurate, comprehensive, technical, and specialized examination and verification of accounting/fiscal data, credit card reconciliation and payroll support, property management and other administrative support functions. Wildlife Conservation is funded by project specific grants from federal agencies.

The incumbent is responsible for day-to-day operations in the areas of accounting, payroll, and complex spreadsheet development and maintenance for the Region III Division of Wildlife Conservation Division Regional office in Fairbanks, 4 area offices, Region III Statewide Programs, Fairbanks Indoor Shooting Range, and Region III Special Projects.
This position responds to payroll questions, procurement and standard administrative questions from regional staff. This position is located in a large regional office and the multi-faceted organizational structure has a direct impact on the volume of work and the complexity of duties.

We are looking for a candidate that possesses some or all of the following position-specific competencies (If you have any experience with the following, please document these in your application and supplemental questions):
Possesses a thorough knowledge of general accounting principles with demonstrated ability to track expenditures and payments for a variety of programs, research and identify errors, and take corrective action as necessary to comply with Division and/or Departments rules and policies.
Possesses a working knowledge of the state accounting and procurement system (IRIS FIN), state payroll system (IRIS HRM) and the Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting (ALDER) System or equivalent accounting software systems as well as proficiency with Microsoft Office Programs.
Possesses strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task and respond to routine duties as well as a wide range of special requests, meeting deadlines in an environment with frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
Ability to provide great customer service, both to co-workers, other organizational staff and the public
Ability to work independently as well as contribute to a team
Experience collecting timesheets and processing payroll
Experience reconciling credit card purchases in the State of Alaska accounting system IRIS or other accounting program.
Experience tracking inventory
The ability to interpret, apply, and explain rules, policies & procedures.
Exceptional attention to detail
Requires the ability to travel once per year for administrative meetings held in Anchorage or Juneau
One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.
Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.
