What you will be doing:

The qualified candidate will be responsible for accurately processing and recording airport customer statistical and financial information including accounts payable (a/p) and accounts receivable (a/r) transactions, reviewing periodically a/p and a/r accounts and systems for inconsistencies, resolving issues with customers, processing internal departmental billings and payables, and performing other duties as assigned related to successful AIAS accounting office operations.

This position will work with various accounting and office software applications, including, but not limited to: Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, Edge, Teams); airport revenue accounting system (Amadeus PROPworks); State of Alaska accounting system (IRIS); State of Alaska reporting system (ALDER), and proprietary Airport Information System (AIS).

The AIAS, comprised of Ted Stevens Anchorage and Fairbanks International Airports, provides the primary transportation corridors for intra- and out-of-state travelers and freight.

The economic benefits contributed to the Anchorage and Fairbanks communities by the AIAS is approximately $2 billion combined. This position is critical to account properly, accurately, and timely for the millions of dollars of AIAS revenue. In this role, you are essentially the "first responder" who identifies then notifies others of data inconsistencies or noncompliance with contract, state, and federal requirements and works with others to resolve.

Who we are looking for:

The successful candidate will possess the following core-competencies:

  • Accounting: Knowledge of traditional accounting practices including accrual, obligations, and costs methods.

  • Arithmetic: Performs computations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division correctly using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Computer Skills: Uses computers, software applications, databases, and automated systems to accomplish work.

  • Conscientiousness: Displays a high level of effort and commitment towards performing work; demonstrates responsible behavior.

Substitutions:

Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

AIRPORT SECURITY BADGE

Candidates for this position must be eligible for an airport identification badge in accordance with Transportation Security Administration (TSA) regulations (49 CFR 1542) which requires fingerprinting and a criminal background check. The successful applicant must pass a fingerprint-based criminal history record check as well as a comprehensive background investigation, along with a Transportation Security Administration Security Threat Assessment.
