Keep Alaska Moving!

Accounting Technician 1 - $ 22.34/hourly

Accounting Technician 2 - $ 25.39/hourly

Accounting Technician 3 - $ 29.16/hourly

What you will be doing:

This position is responsible for programming capital projects in support of the Northern Region's Capital Improvement Program. Responsibilities include processing project funding documents, reviewing and reconciling project expenditures upon project completion, input of project structures and financial transactions in the Integrated Resource Information System (IRIS), and generating financial reports from the Alaska Data Enterprise Reporting System (ALDER).

The working environment you can expect:

This position will work in-office from the DOT&PF complex (2301 Peger Road) which is centrally located in Fairbanks and houses Northern Region's design, construction, maintenance, and support staff between multiple buildings within walking distance along Peger Road. The office location provides abundant parking, a team-oriented atmosphere, and great break time walking with a coffee shop conveniently across the street.

Who we are looking for:

Our successful candidate will have the following competencies:

  • Accounting Operations: Knowledge of general ledger accounting and the control/subsidiary account relationships and reconciliation techniques, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, and disbursing offer's accountability.

  • Attention to Detail: Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

  • Oral and Written Communication: Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral and written presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

  • Principles of Accounting: Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles, standards and practices (for example, double entry accounting, accrual accounting) including the full accounting cycle and the preparation of work sheets, financial statements, ledgers, and journals.

Accounting Technician 1

One year of clerical work experience maintaining records that included using computer systems and performing basic arithmetic calculations.

Substitutions:

Successful completion of a formal vocational education program in accounting or bookkeeping will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month).

Accounting Technician 2

One year of entry technical level accounting or clerical bookkeeping experience.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in accounting.

Accounting Technician 3

Two years of technical level accounting or bookkeeping experience, of which at least one year was at the full-proficiency level.

Substitutions:

Certification as an Accounting Technician from an accredited college will substitute for one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for up to one year of the required experience at the non-full-proficiency level (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours in accounting.

Post secondary education from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience (3 semester/4 quarter hours equal one month) if it includes at least 9 semester/12 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in accounting.

An associate's degree in Accounting or Business Administration from an accredited college will substitute for the required two years of experience if it includes at least 6 semester/8 quarter hours at or above the 200 level in Accounting.
