The primary purpose of Accounting Tech

  • AP position is to audit, process and manage the independent contracts, medical providers of pre-employment physicals/drug screens, and Lowes commercial credit card for the Department of Adult Correction. State Policies allow DAC to acquire contractual services from independent sources after it has been determined that the services cannot be reasonably accomplished by employees of the agency. In addition, this position audits, troubleshoots and processes some of the more complex payables.

This position is located within the NC Department of Adult Correction, Controller's Office.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Process contracted items on Purchase orders

  • Process Direct Payments to suppliers

  • Identify and resolve issues with payment request and documentation

  • Communicate with supplier, auditor, staff and the general public

This position is eligible for a flexible/hybrid telework schedule under the State of NC Telework Program. 

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits.

To qualify for this position, applicants must document on the application that they possess ALL of the following:

  • Proficiency in accounting methods, procedures, and principles, along with a documented capacity to comprehend, interpret, and apply relevant laws and regulations concerning financial records

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Products such as, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel etc.

  • Proven experience in scrutinizing accounting documents/forms to ensure accuracy and completeness

  • Proven capacity to analyze and interpret policies and procedures in order to address issues effectively

Management Preferences:   

  • NCFS or Oracle based accounting experience

  • Working knowledge of the purchasing process

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate both orally and in writing effectively

Associate's degree in accounting from an appropriately accredited institution, or High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two (2) years of experience in accounting work (OR) an equivalent combination of education and experience.
