Role Overview

To support DST's growth and business initiatives, DST Systems is seeking a motivated individual to manage accounting activities and projects in the Corporate Accounting department. This position will report directly to DST's Corporate Accounting Director.

The Accounting Supervisor provides leadership and direction to staff. This position will prepare financial and business-related analysis and research. They may forecast and analyze trends, perform high-level account analysis, audits, accrual reviews and account reconciliations.

Accounting Supervisor may review and approve invoices, compute and prepare data for journal entries, post journal entries, review general ledger balances and related financial statements for reasonableness. They may accumulate and analyze information for the preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and reports and assist in preparing financial reports. Accounting Supervisor may assist in the development of procedures, conduct special financial analyses and business-related studies, and collaborate with others in the preparation of analyses. Accounting Supervisor frequently interact with internal and external contacts.

Candidates need to have a strong financial and business acumen as the accounting activities in this area will have both financial and internal control elements. The ideal candidate is a CPA with a mixture of both public accounting and industry experience.

Candidates need to be detail-oriented and have the ability to interact with DST Operation and Finance executives. Candidates must be able to multi-task and be flexible as priorities change. Successful candidates are individuals that are naturally inquisitive, have a positive attitude, enjoy implementing process improvements, have the ability to perform complex analyses, identify accounting, control or risk issues and have the courage to challenge the status quo.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare financial and business-related analysis and research.

  • Forecast and analyze trends, perform high-level account analysis, audits, accrual reviews and account reconciliations.

  • Review and approve invoices, compute and prepare data for journal entries, post journal entries, review general ledger balances and related financial statements for reasonableness.

  • Accumulate and analyze information for the preparation of financial statements, ledgers, and reports and assist in preparing financial reports.

  • May assist in the development of procedures, conduct special financial analyses and business-related studies, and collaborate with others in the preparation of analyses.

  • Frequently interact with internal and external contacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree and 5 years of work-related experience

  • CPA, public accounting and PeopleSoft Financials experience is a plus

  • Past supervisory experience is a plus

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple tasks

This team is a part of a broader community of over 400 accountants who work throughout the company. In this role you'll not only work within your team, but you'll work with accountants and other business partners across the organization. Responsibilities * Direct all aspects of the 1940 Act Funds (Funds) tax matters * Coordination and oversight of the 3rd party tax service provider utilized by the Funds * Act as primary tax liaison with outside tax advisors, consultants, auditors, and fund administrators * Keep current on emerging tax issues that impact the Funds, actively participate in the industry * Coordinate with internal departments to ensure that the tax issues, policies and guidelines are understood and implemented correctly * Develop a strong working relationship with portfolio management teams and pro-actively provide the teams with the necessary reporting to assist in the dividend / excise tax management of the Funds * Ensure the appropriate level of documentation is created and maintained to support analyses performed, decisions made and conclusions reached * Prepare/review tax disclosure for insertion in financial statements * Assist in monitoring book/tax differences such as PFICS, wash sales, straddles, contingent debt, equity/debt determination, REITS, MLPs etc. * Perform tax research, advice and analysis for current and potential products including keeping appraised of developments and industry issues; draft tax position memos as needed * Perform ASC 740 analysis * Review and maintain monthly and quarterly tax compliance, IRC diversification, income tests, etc. * Enhance/develop internal tax policies/procedures and automation solutions * Prepare tax related communications for the Board of Directors * Assist in the training and development of staff on tax matters Qualifications * Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent required * Minimum 12 years of related experience with significant time spent in mutual fund accounting * '40Act/mutual fund/regulated investment company tax required * Experience with complex tax adjustments such as those for derivatives, partnerships, and foreign blocker entities required * Experience determining taxable income and distribution amounts required * Experience establishing and maintaining an internal control environment required Location We have a preference towards candidates who are willing to be located in Des Moines, IA or Folsom, CA.
