What We Offer

The City and County of Denver offers a competitive salary commensurate with education and experience. The salary range for this position is $76,426.00 - $126,103.00/year. Our starting salary range is $80,000.00 - $101,265.00/year, based on experience and education. We also offer generous benefits for full-time employees which include but are not limited to:

Location

The City and County of Denver utilizes a hybrid model workplace that balances the responsibilities of public service with the benefits of a flexible work environment. Employees work where needed, at a city site and/or in the field several days a week and telecommute at a designated workplace within the State of Colorado the remaining days.

In this position you can expect to work on site at least two days a week at the Republic Plaza at 370 17th Street, Denver, CO 80202.

What You'll Do

At the Department of Housing Stability, we are committed to support Denver residents as healthy, housed and connected. We invest resources, create policy, and partner with various organizations to help keep residents in the homes that they already live in, quickly resolve an experience of homelessness, and connect residents to new housing opportunities. To support these efforts, the department helps to:

  • Stabilize residents at risk of involuntary displacement and connect residents to housing resources such as home repairs, rent and utility assistance, and legal support.

  • Support residents experiencing a crisis and connect them to housing, shelter and other services to get stabilized quickly.

  • Create and preserve existing affordable housing and connect residents at any income level to new housing opportunities through programs such as down-payment assistance or counseling services.

  • Support financial services, contracting and procurement, data analysis and strategic planning, administrative resources, and communications across the housing continuum.

The Accounting Supervisor reports through our Operations Division as part of our Finance team. As part of the implementation of HOST's vision of a healthy, housed, and connected Denver.

Additionally, as the Accounting Supervisor on our team, you will also:

  • Supervise a team of two Associate Accountants and one Staff Accountant. This team will be managing the Department of Housing Stability general ledger and loan portfolio. Perform employee performance reviews, goal setting and evaluate employee functions. Approve/deny PTO. Keep the team accountable. Promote professional, personal growth and working as a cohesive team member.

  • Review and approve supplier invoices, customer invoices, customer payments, customer deposits, journal entries, award amendments, budget amendments, change orders, accounting adjustments, project codes, bank reconciliations, loan reconciliations, quarterly debt allowance reports, quarterly IHO reports, charge offs, audit confirmations, releases, payoff statements, non-cash adjustments, loan set-ups, revenue postings, draw request and wires.

  • Analyze/Reconcile the general ledger for over 30 different funding sources including special revenue funds, other local funds, state and federal funds. Prepare various financials reports.

  • Read and understand government contracts, regulations, guidelines, loan closing documents, settlement statements, promissory notes, security agreements, deeds of trust, covenants, subordination agreements, collateral documents, award letters and budgets.

  • Work effectively with many internal departments at HOST, within the City, and outside the City, including HOST Executive Support Team, HOST Finance, Department of Finance, City Budget Management Office, City Capital Investments, City Cash and Capital Funding, City Accounts Payable, City Purchasing, City Public Trustee, City Clerk and Recorder, City Attorney's Office, HOST Asset Management & Compliance, HOST Contracts, HOST Program Managers, and City Real Estate.

  • Successfully meet deadlines of the Team, Agency, City, State and Federal deadlines. Avoid audit findings to the best of your ability.

  • Create/Update SOPs for policies and procedures.

  • Working supervisor with the team. This position requires thorough knowledge, capability, and a willingness to assist as necessary. You'll be expected to be hands-on and able to perform the tasks assigned to your team members, should the need arise. Occasionally, meeting deadlines or completing tasks may require working beyond a standard 40-hour week or reporting in-person as required.

Our ideal candidate has some or all the following experience, skills, and characteristics:

  • Experience with government contracts, loan documents, state, and federal guidelines, and regulations. General ledger experience with government accounting and/or grant accounting.

  • Three years' experience supervising/managing a team of three or more. Help the team learn and grow professionally. Should be able to communicate verbally and effectively. Hold self and staff accountable. Be adaptable and flexible. Ability to be an independent worker but be team focused and promote being a team player amongst the team.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work accurately under pressure in a fast-paced environment, with interruptions; work independently and prioritize effectively within tight time constraints. Work successfully with minimal supervision, strong time management and organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Experience with a loan portfolio of 50+ loans. Be able to read and interpret loan documents, collateral documents, contracts, and agreements.

  • Working knowledge of various systems such as Excel, Workday, Salesforce, Revenue Management, Enterprise Cashiering, and Portfol.

Required Minimum Qualifications

  • Education requirement: Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration.

  • Experience Requirement: Three (3) years of full performance level professional accounting experience reconciling accounting discrepancies, analyzing expenditures, and preparing financial reports.

  • Education/Experience Equivalency: No substitution of experience for education is permitted. Additional appropriate education may be substituted for experience requirements.
