Accounting Specialist I

The City of Wyoming seeks to fill two Accounting Specialist I positions in our Finance Department.

The first position will work with purchasing, city departments, and vendors to ensure timely payments are made for goods and services. Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and approving weekly invoice batches entered by various City departments.

• Creating weekly vendor payments.

• Assisting in special projects such as increasing the utilization of electronic payments, annual 1099 preparation, and unclaimed property reporting.

The second position will work with City departments to ensure timely recording and reconciling of all City revenue and investment activity. This position also works closely with the payroll processor to enter and maintain employee demographic, deduction, and benefit data. Responsibilities include:

• Reviewing and recording daily receipt batches from the Treasury Department.

• Monitoring and reconciling activity in multiple bank and investment accounts.

• Processing journal entries, budget amendments, and invoices for receivables.

• Processing updates to employee payroll records.

• Assisting in special projects such as account reconciliations, financial reports and variance analysis, quarterly and annual reporting requirements (W-2, 1099, ACA), and working with benefit providers on annual audits.

Both positions provide financial support to City departments and staff, providing the opportunity to build relationships, and an understanding of operations throughout the City. Candidates will need to effectively communicate with City staff, vendors, other governmental agencies, and the public as well as ensure compliance with applicable policies, contracts, budgets, regulations, and laws.
