Position Overview:

The Division Director of Business Services is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing and managing the financial operations of the Capitol Region Education Council (CREC). The position requires a strong background in management of fiscal operations including accounting, grants management, audits, and staff management. The Division Director ensures that the Business Services Division operates efficiently and effectively, supporting the overall mission and strategic goals of CREC.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Operations:

  • Oversee the financial management of the agency, including budgeting, accounting, financial reporting, and cash management.
  • Develop and implement financial policies and procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and best practices.
  • Monitor and analyze financial performance, providing regular reports to senior leadership and the CREC Council.

Audit and Compliance:

  • Oversees the coordination and participation of Business Services in internal and annual audits, ensuring timely and accurate completion.
  • Address audit findings and implement corrective actions to improve financial controls and processes.
  • Maintain a comprehensive understanding of applicable governmental financial regulations and standards, ensuring the agency's compliance.

Staff Management and Development:

  • Lead, manage, and motivate the Business Services Division staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment.
  • Develop and implement professional development plans to enhance the skills and knowledge of team members.
  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to staff.

Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with the Chief Administrative Officer and senior leadership to develop and execute the agency's financial strategy.
  • Participate in strategic planning initiatives, providing financial insights and recommendations.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within Business Services Division and the agency.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for financial matters with internal and external stakeholders, including funders, auditors, and regulatory bodies.
  • Communicate complex financial information clearly and effectively to non-financial stakeholders.

Technology and Systems:

  • Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems and software to enhance operational efficiency.

  • Advance the organization's commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) through equitable financial practices, resource allocation, and decision-making.
  • Commitment to DEI principles and the ability to integrate them into financial decision-making and strategy.

Qualifications:

  • Masters' degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Thorough understanding of school finance is highly desirable.
  • Possesses 085 (SBO) or is eligible to obtain certification.
  • Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive experience in Executive or Senior level Financial Management roles.
  • Experience in a leadership role advising superintendent or other CEO/COO or similar roles.
  • Exceptional knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and audit processes.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and develop a diverse team of financial professionals.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
  • Proficiency in financial management software MUNIS and Google and Microsoft Office suites, preferred.
