Job Summary


In this position you will provide professional accounting support to financial and underwriting operations of the Risk Management Division of the Department of Administration. This work will include quarterly premium and loss reporting, internal auditing, and annual report and underwriting. The position develops, generates, and reconciles management reports; designs and produces reports from the states accounting system SWIFT; is responsible for data quality and completeness; and works with Division staff to produce necessary data elements that support the mission of the Risk Management Division.

This is a temporary position anticipated to last up to one year in duration.

Qualifications



Minimum Qualifications:


Bachelors degree in accounting, finance, or closely related discipline or (2) two years of professional accounting experience

AND

  • Experience preparing basic and complex financial documents and/or statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures

  • Experience working with the states accounting system SWIFT or similar system

  • Working knowledge of Minnesota Workers Compensation laws sufficient to understand impact on workers compensation payments to calculate complex indemnity benefits, and to complete the annual supplementary reimbursement request forms.

  • Expertise in Excel spreadsheet software sufficient to create and run reports

  • Problem solving and organizational/planning skills necessary to independently complete assignments in accordance with established time frames


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional accounting experience in state government

  • Knowledge in using the states Information Warehouse for reporting purposes.

  • Experience in State fiscal systems such as SWIFT, SEMA4 or other comparable systems

  • Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy working with numbers and crucial recordkeeping on a daily basis

  • Ability to interpret and explain accounting and workers compensation policies, procedures, and practices to customers
