Perpich Center for Arts Education
Perpich Center for Arts Education is the dedicated state agency supporting arts education for Minnesota. Our mission is to provide all Minnesota students the opportunity to develop, enhance, and integrate their artistic and academic abilities to their highest potential.
We do this by teaching in and through the arts. We teach in our arts high school for juniors and seniors. We also teach through our professional development and research activities. We support teaching art and arts integration through the extensive arts education material in our library.
This position performs professional accounting work in the finance office of the Perpich Center for Arts Education. Leads some fiscal management systems and accounting activities for the Perpich Center for Arts Education so that the financial operations of the Center are conducted in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable statutes, laws, rules and regulations.
Responsible for all accounts receivable activities of the agency to include managing student fees, invoicing, and collections of delinquent accounts, ensuring the state's debt collection statutes are complied with. Responsible for managing the purchasing functions of the agency. Serves as a financial liaison to program managers so that budget and financial information is communicated clearly and completely to staff that may not be versed in accounting and the various state rules and regulations affecting purchasing, payments and payroll.
Assists in the preparation of biennial and capital budget requests and other necessary annual budget materials in accordance with MMB and legislative guidelines. Assists with performing internal auditing functions and provides support to external auditors with their auditing activities. Serves as back-up to payroll coordinator. Performs other duties as assigned.
Associate's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or closely related field, AND at least 2 (two) years' experience in professional accounting work.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and other applicable statutes, rules, regulations, policies and procedures sufficient to prepare, analyze and interpret financial documents and/or statements.
Interpersonal oral and written communication skills sufficient to communicate effectively with management and staff at all levels of the agency.
Ability to use MS Office - word processing, spreadsheets, and other software applications to prepare reports, invoices, reconciliation, letters, and other documents.
Problem solving skills sufficient to identify potential problems and promote effective solutions.
Ability to work effectively and diplomatically across all levels of the organization including staff, board members, parents, students, other state agencies and customers.
Excellent customer service skills and ability to handle stressful situations in a positive, proactive manner.
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance or closely related field, AND at least 3 (three) years' experience in professional accounting work.
Experience working with school financing.
Experience in State fiscal systems such as SWIFT, SEMA4, OBIEE, or other comparable systems.
Strong attention to detail and high degree of accuracy while working with numbers on a daily basis. Ability to interpret and explain accounting and related fiscal policies, procedures and practices to customers.
Experience developing and implementing fiscal procedures to resolve problems.
Knowledge of audit procedure and internal controls.
Thorough knowledge of State regulation policies and procedures.
Occasional lifting may be required.
Successful candidate must pass employer reference checks and criminal history check
Must possess and maintain a valid MN Driver's License.
