Ensures the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating and entering transactions.

  • Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial reporting which includes monthly journal entries and accruals.

  • Reconcile subsidiary ledger accounts and general ledger;

  • Assist in the preparation of financial budgets, projections and other financial analyses;

  • Able to build financial reports using PeopleSoft Accounting software.

  • Oversee the preparation of monthly and quarterly government grant contract reports

  • Oversee and prepare year-end account analyses and schedules; adjusting entries, lead sheets and any other items necessary for the annual audit and tax returns;

  • Assist in the preparation of Annual Medicaid and Medicare Cost Reports for submission to New York State Department of Health (DOH) and other regulatory bodies;

  • Supervises the work of Junior Accountants

  • Responsible for other tasks and analyses as required

Education:

BS degree in Accounting is required Required experience: 5 or more years in accounting experience

  • Thorough knowledge and ability to research and apply GAAP accounting principles

  • Strong analytical skills and financial statement preparation experience

  • Strong computer skills (intermediate-advanced Excel, Peoplesoft, ADP)

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Employment StatusFull-TimeOverview The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing consistent leadership in the financial area of the hotel by supplying management with guidance and training. He/she is also responsible for focusing on the profitability of the business, maintaining accurate and timely financial reporting, ensuring acceptable levels on internal control, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, and safeguarding owners/investors assets. Responsibilities Job Functions: Income Audit * Complete import of daily revenue from PMS system reports to the monthly Income Journal. * Ensure that Guest and City ledgers balance each day. * Ensure that daily cash deposit balances with General Cashier's daily deposit log. * Post completed IJ entries to hotel's General Ledger on a daily basis. * Reconcile all bank transactions to the General Ledger on a daily basis. Accounts Receivable Follow up on guest related service and billing issues, posting adjustments, additional charges, and credit card refunds in accordance with Highgate SOP's. * Reconcile and clear any open G/L accounts, transferring to the City Ledger as needed. * Contact third party agencies for prepaid credit card details * Reconcile and clear any open G/L accounts, transferring to the City Ledger as needed. * Research and respond to chargebacks and credit card inquiries in a timely fashion. Accounts Payable * Ensure that Purchase Orders are completed accurately and a timely manner * Ensure that Department Heads reconcile Purchase Orders, Receiving Documents, and Invoices prior to processing. * Process AP invoices and issue check payments according to Highgate company standards. * Ensure 3rd party restaurant billing reconciles with daily income reports. * Record any unpaid fixed or expected liabilities, per the Critical Date List and any outstanding Purchase Orders for which goods are received in the current period. * Maintain logs of all vendor contracts, proof of liability insurance, and W9's, and any additional documentation as deemed necessary by the Director of Finance. * Update Critical Date List monthly and maintain all approval documentation related to vendor additions. * Maintain scanned copies of journal entries on a daily basis, as well as during the month end closing process. Cash * Retrieve daily cash and check deposits and the accompanying log from back office. * Reconcile daily cash and check deposits against PMS and POS cash transactions, noting any overages or shortages. * Process dueback and petty cash requests in accordance with Highgate SOP's. * Report any large or recurring variances to the Director of Finance and Director of Human Resources as soon as they arise. Qualifications * A minimum of 6 years of related progressive experience in hotel Accounting or related field; or a 4-year college degree with an Accounting/ Finance concentration and a minimum of 2 years of related progressive experience; or a 2-year college degree and a minimum of 4 years of related progressive experience. * Must be proficient in Windows, Company approved spreadsheets and word processing and in the operation of all hotel-specific systems. * Maintain a warm and friendly demeanor at all times. * Must be able to effectively communicate both verbally and written, with all level of employees and guests in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service oriented manner. * Must be effective at listening to, understanding, and clarifying concerns raised by employees and guests. * Must be able to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines. * Approach all encounters with guests and employees in an attentive, friendly, courteous and service-oriented manner. * Attend all hotel required meetings and trainings. * Participate in M.O.D. coverage as required. * Maintain regular attendance in compliance with Highgate Hotel Standards, as required by scheduling, which will vary according to the needs of the hotel. * Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include wearing nametags. * Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations. * Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas and assist in implementing solutions. * Must be effective in handling problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary. * Must be able to understand and evaluate complex information, data, etc. from various sources to meet appropriate objectives. * Must be able to maintain confidentiality of information. * Perform other duties as requested by management.
