Synchron is a clinical-stage endovascular brain computer interface (BCI) company. Since 2012, the company has been developing a BCI platform that avoids the need for open brain surgery by using a minimally-invasive procedure. The Synchron Switch BCI received FDA Breakthrough Device Designation in 2020, and is currently in human clinical trials in the US and Australia.

The funds will accelerate product development, facilitate commencement of a pivotal clinical trial, and advance Synchron towards a first-in-class BCI market approval for the treatment of paralysis.

The Synchron Switch brain computer interface is implanted in the blood vessel on the surface of the motor cortex of the brain via the jugular vein, through a minimally-invasive endovascular procedure. Once implanted, it is designed to detect and wirelessly transmit motor intent out of the brain, restoring a capability for severely paralyzed patients to control personal devices with hands-free point-and-click. We are looking for an Accounting Manager to manage and conduct day-to-day accounting activity. The Accounting Manager will work closely with the VP Finance to ensure timely and accurate availability of accounting data to the organization.

The Accounting Manager will initially have no direct reports. They must be a confident self-starter who will work well with a remote supervisor and is interested in expanding their role in this young and growing pre-revenue company. No task is too large or too small for this role.

Responsibilities:

Entering all accounting data: Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets accounting, all journal entries (accruals, prepaid amortization, lease accounting)

Handling accounts payable, top to bottom, including company credit cards

Running Monthly, Quarterly, Year End accounting close processes (consolidation, FX accounting)

Ensuring accuracy of accounting data: monthly account reconciliations, bank recs

Preparing audit schedules, communication with auditors

Assisting outside tax advisors in tax return preparation

Managing accounting for Australian organization via outside accountant or direct involvement

Document existing and creating new financial processes and controls

Manage subsidiary accounting for minority investments

Assist in reporting as necessary (monthly departmental Budget vs Actual reports, quarterly Board meetings)

Projects as necessary (e.g., research new Expense Reporting solution)

Skills/Requirements:

BS degree in Accounting or Finance

Proven working experience as Accounting Manager, Accounting Supervisor or Finance Manager, OR 3 years Public Accounting Experience

Experience leading financial close process

Experience with US GAAP Financial Statement Preparation (this role is a primary contact for US auditors)

Experience with advanced accounting software (NetSuite preferred)

Mastery of Microsoft Excel

Good Knowledge of U.S. GAAP: passing CPA exam a plus
