Accounting Manager

Job Summary:

Assist the VP of Finance in ensuring that all functions in the Accounting Department are performed timely with the most efficient and accurate methods, in accordance with established policies and procedures. This includes the maintenance of the integrity of the General Ledger, management of subsidiary accounting and reporting, training and management of Accounting Staff, and in all areas of accounting conducted within the organization.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for ensuring financial records are in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), state and federal laws, and regulatory requirements.

  • Ensure compliance with financial and internal controls to safeguard the Credit Union's assets from misappropriation and recommend new or improved controls and efficiencies.

  • Responsible for the overall management of Accounting staff and Accounting Operations with accountability for smooth functioning of the department, and quality and quantity of Accounting Staff work.

  • Manage all Accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Fixed Assets, Investment Accounting.

  • Manage general ledger and sub-ledger account reconciliations prepared by the accounting staff by ensuring general ledger accounts are in balance and outstanding items clear within the established deadlines.

  • Knowledgeable of accounting pronouncements to lead and direct accounting staff.

  • Preparation of documentation for audits and taxes, including the sales and use tax filing to the State Board of Equalization and property tax filings.

  • Responsible for cash management, including management of bank account balances at correspondent banks and daily account settlements.

  • Manage month-end processing, income and expense review and financial statement preparation and assist in the compiling, maintenance and reporting of all statistical information used throughout the organization.

  • Manage vendor relationships including coordinating any software maintenance and upgrades to ensure software releases are up to date.

  • Prepare financial information as requested for auditors, examiners, and regulators, including the completing of the quarterly Call Report.

  • Identify training and procedural needs/gaps for accounting activities, develop written procedures to ensure operational efficiency and compliance.

  • Conduct and review resource analysis, capacity planning, and daily coverage.

  • Manage staff turnover, interview and taking part in the hiring process, and writing/presenting employee performance evaluations, including training and promoting employee growth and development.

  • Assist in the annual corporate budget preparation process.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complete required BSA & OFAC training annually.

  • Understand and adhere to BSA and OFAC policy and procedures.

Qualifications/Education/Skills & Abilities:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting and

  • 3+ years of financial accounting experience.

  • 1+ year of leadership or managerial experience

  • Proven knowledge of accounting principles.

  • Proven knowledge and proficiency with General Ledger oversight, cash management, investment accounting, and other Accounting related functions.

  • Excellent technical skills are also required, as well as the ability to identify inefficiencies, and plan and implement strategies to improve efficiencies through automation and other means.

  • Proficiency with financial statement production.

Compensation:

Pay Grade is M1. This position is eligible for our twice a year discretionary bonus.

Targeted Base Pay: $86,112 - $112,008
