JOB TITLE: ACCOUNTING MANAGER
REPORT TO: CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Accounting Manager will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting and reporting activities. They will be involved in supporting presentations to the board finance and audit committee and will work closely with the senior leadership team.
The Accounting Manager will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and grants administration. The Accounting Manager will ensure that NEMS has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. The Accounting Manager will work closely with leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support operations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures.
Coordinate all audit activity, including but not limited to all Internal, Federal, State and county agencies.
Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of NEMS financial status;
Assist NEMS leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administer and review all financial plans and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
Oversee all financial, project/program and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for government, corporate, and foundation grants;
Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the leadership team; continuously collaborate with leadership team o assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
Review financial contracts, agreements and insurance policies.
Assure tax compliance to assure accurate and timely completion of all tax filings.
Direct supervision of a department involving responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods and personnel. Responsible for carrying out supervisory/managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring of employees; planning, assigning, scheduling, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
Performs other job duties as required by manager/supervisor.
Completion of a four-year degree from an accredited university
7+ years of hands on accounting managerial experience
At least 2 years of payroll experience in a supervisory role.
Advanced proficiency in various computer applications, e.g. word processing, excel spreadsheet, e-mail, database management, and presentation software.
Excellent communication skills including negotiation skills; must be persistent and persuasive.
Ability to develop alternative solutions to problems; comparing and analyzing data; preparing clear, concise, thorough, meaningful, and grammatically correct written reports, letters, memoranda, and other documents.
Must be able to establish rapport and effective working relationships with physicians and clinic administrators.
Very strong customer service orientation, positive attitude, and change oriented.
Must be able to prioritize multiple responsibilities and manage a large workload within tight deadlines.
Ability to independently plan, organize, prioritize, schedule, coordinate, and make decisions relating to assigned tasks.
Excellent problem-solving skills and self-motivation. Self starter, takes initiative, and the ability to work independently.
Ability to work with highly sensitive and confidential matters.
Must be able to fluently speak, read and write English.
Fluent in other languages are an asset.
This is an FLSA exempt position.
This is not an OSHA high-risk position.
