JOB SUMMARYUnder the supervision of the Assistant Controller and Controller, the Accounting Manager will assist with the day-to-day management of the Office of Accounting, assist in the monitoring of compliance with established federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal policies, procedures, and processing time schedules, while maintaining confidentiality of all data.

Summary of DutiesESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Assist the Assistant Controller in directing the organization’s accounting functions; Assist in the development and maintenance of financial reporting, planning, and budgeting systems; Assist in periodic reporting and required legal filings. Also, ensuring that all corporate and required accounting policies and procedures are documented and followed by the organization; Assist in the preparation and analysis of ad-hoc reports to assist senior College management in the decision-making process;Provide input to strategic decisions that affect the functional area of responsibility.

May give input into developing budgets;Responsible for the management of the annual financial audit;Capable of resolving escalated issues arising from operations and requiring coordination with other departments. DEPARTMENT-SPECIFIC JOB FUNCTIONS: Assist in the supervision of Accountants and Senior Accountants; and Perform other assigned duties.

QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK: Requires a CPA; Five (5) years’ experience, preferably in a higher education institution; Valid Driver’s License.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures; Knowledge of IA Plus SCT FRS/HRS or Datatel/Colleague preferred; Skill in using standard Microsoft office applications; Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing; Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with college administrators, faculty, staff, students, and the general public.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:Work requires no unusual demand for physical effort.WORK ENVIRONMENT:Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office or meeting and training rooms; e.g., use of safe workplace practices with office equipment, avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire and building safety regulations, and traffic signals when driving. Also, the Nursing Program has Articulation Agreements with NJCU, Ramapo College and Montclair State University which allows students a seamless pathway to obtain a BSN.More than 90% of HCCC’s students receive scholarships, grants, and loans to finance their education, and the College’s extensive financial aid program helps connect students with the resources they need.

To date, the College’s Foundation has raised over $3.5 million for student scholarships, and HCCC ranks first in the state of New Jersey for its award of Community College Opportunity Grant funds. About half of its more than 12,000 credit students identify as Hispanic, and more than 33% of all students were born outside of the U.S. In 2021, HCCC had two students selected from a national applicant pool to receive the prestigious Jack Kent Cooke Foundation’s Undergraduate Transfer Scholarship and recently six students were named as 2023 semi-finalists.HCCC has three campuses.
