Job Summary

The Accounting Manager, General Ledger manages day to day accounting operations and is responsible for the preparation, review, and maintenance of accounting records in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) policies and procedures. The Accounting Manager, General Ledger provides guidance and supervision to accounting staff members and is a key member of the accounting leadership group.

Essential Functions and Work Responsibilities

Functional Category: Accounting Administration and Oversight

  • Manage the daily operations of the g/l department to ensure timely execution of all applicable responsibilities and effectively manage direct reports and provide, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization.

  • Identify and implement best in class accounting close processes and procedures.

  • Instrumental in coordinating all aspects of accounting integration from identification of needs early on in the acquisition process to final integration of accounting activities.

  • Understand, interpret and communicate information/data to improve efficiencies and performance and continually identifies process improvements and executes on implementation of such improvements.

  • Analyze and interpret complex accounting transactions in accordance with (GAAP) rules and regulations.

  • Review financial statements and provide variance analysis.

  • Review account reconciliations in order to analyze and ensure documentary evidence and financial transaction integrity.

  • Supervise the preparation of various accounting entries related to the operation of the company to permit the timely issuance of the monthly and annual trial balance, balance sheet, income statement, general ledger, and detail ledgers for all companies.

  • Update and develop and document effective, efficient and scalable accounting process and procedures.

  • Review monthly journal entries.

  • Assist with monthly general ledger close.

  • Prepare financial statements and other accounting reporting on a monthly and annual basis and ensure that financial statements are in compliance with GAAP, InnovAge policies/procedures and governmental requirements.

  • Effectively supervises and manages direct reports and provides, by example and leadership, motivation and direction to employees of the organization.

  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable state and federal employment laws.

  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; recognizing and rewarding employees; corrective disciplinary procedures and practices (under direction of supervisor and in partnership with Human Resources), addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Ensures annual employee performance reviews are conducted in a timely and effective manner. Evaluates performance of employees for compliance with established policies and objectives of the organization and contributions in attaining objectives.

  • Helps set the tone of the department to ensure morale, team work, and that the positive employment culture of the organization is maintained.

  • Regularly schedules leadership/management, department, and staff 1:1 meetings to provide leadership, development, and a forum for communication to ensure coordination and collaboration in meeting organization and individual goals.

REQUIRED

Education

  • Bachelor's in Accounting or related field from an accredited university

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience

  • Current and working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), monthly close process and with establishing internal controls and process improvement.

PREFERRED

Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Current registration as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred

Work Experience and Qualifications

  • Experience in healthcare industry preferred

  • Knowledge of Medicaid, Medicare, and private pay reimbursement preferred

  • Current and working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX)
