Accounting Manager - Commercial Construction

If so, we need you We are a leading greater Chicagoland commercial general contractor, looking to appoint an experienced Accounting Manager to oversee all accounting functions and be responsible for managing financial transactions, creating financial reports, reconciling accounts, and ensuring compliance with GAAP. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in construction accounting, exceptional communication skills, and a proven track record of leadership within a team. This position reports directly to the President/Owner.

Key Responsibilities: · Manage all day-to-day accounting and bookkeeping for A/R, A/P, credit cards, and payroll. · Manage daily cash reports, A/R and A/P review. · Perform collection activity as required, setup proactive collections process. · Prepare cash flow forecasts as needed. · Ensure accurate balance sheet and P&L reporting. · Perform monthly closeouts and prepare financials for CPA review. · Process payments to subcontractors and vendors. · Draft commercial construction contracts and subcontracts. · Manage subcontractor credentials and compliance. · Oversee all prime and subcontracts, retainage, and change order management at the accounting level. · Collaborate with Project Management team to maintain an accurate WIP report. · Train PM and office staff on accounting best practices. · Oversee payroll process and regularly engage with office manager and third-party providers as required to ensure payroll is processed timely and accurately. · Manage the Financials Module in PROCORE and ensure accurate and real-time syncing with QBO. · Ensure projects are properly set up in PROCORE for accounting purposes. · Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements and reports, ensuring accuracy and adherence to GAAP and other accounting regulations – identify trends, areas of improvement and recommend changes to Sr. Management. · Any other assigned duties. Qualifications: · Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Administration required. · At least 5 years of accounting experience, 3 years of management experience required. · Commercial Construction Accounting or accounting experience with a commercial general contractor is required. · Knowledge of AIA Contracts and payment applications is required. · Liens process and commercial construction insurance knowledge is required. · Advanced knowledge of GAAP and accounting standards. · Strong leadership skills. · Excellent written and verbal communication skills. · Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software. · Quickbooks Online (QBO) Advanced proficiency is required. · PROCORE experience is a plus - training will be provided. · CPA certification is a bonus.
