The Bethel Church Accounting and Finance Manager plays an integral role in the day to day operations of the Finance office. The Accounting Manager leads a team of Contributions, Accounts Payable and General Ledger Accountants, works to develop and maintain accounting principles and best practices, has a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), manages the monthly close process, and supports managers across teams with financial procedures and reporting.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement processes for collecting, verifying and reporting financial information.
  • Manage accounting staff and assist with accounting human resource objectives as needed, including:
    • Recruiting and selecting new team members
    • Training, scheduling, coaching, and disciplining employees;
    • Communicating job expectations;
    • Planning, monitoring, appraising, and reviewing job contributions;
    • Enforcing policies and procedures.
  • Achieve accounting operational objectives including:
    • preparing and completing action plans; implementing a timely monthly close, resolving problems; identifying trends; determining system improvements; completing audits; completing year-end tax filings; implementing and project managing change as needed.
  • Assist Controller with project tasks like specific budget investigations, financial analysis etc.
  • Communicate with other departments to ensure the accuracy of financial data, researching and interpreting accounting policy and applying observations and recommendations to operational issues as needed.
  • Maintain financial security by ensuring compliance with internal controls.
  • Avoid legal challenges by understanding current and proposed legislation, enforcing accounting regulations, and recommending new procedures when necessary.
  • Protect the organization’s value by keeping information confidential.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in continuing education opportunities.
  • Accomplish accounting and organization mission by completing related duties as needed.

    Salary Range : $65,000 - $68,000/year

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent) in Accounting
  • 5 + years working in the accounting field
  • Proficient in US GAAP
  • Understanding of the Accounting Cycle
  • Experience with financial reporting requirements
  • Understanding of Non-Profit ASC a plus
  • History managing a staff/team
  • Be able to problem solve and identify solutions.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel and experience with monthly close and other accounting software
  • Attention to detail
  • Communication and relationship management skills
  • The position is located in Redding, California.
