The Internship Experience
Principal will host over 200 interns across various business units and teams. You will meet with senior executives, gain career direction, and contribute to work that helps our customers live their best lives - all at a Fortune 500 company who invests in your personal and professional development.

What you'll do
During these paid internships, interns will work full time while enhancing and applying their accounting skills and developing professionally. Once a candidate is selected for this program, they will be placed in one of the following business areas within the Accounting Community or Finance at Principal. There are opportunities within Retirement and Income Solutions, Principal Global Investors, U.S. Insurance Solutions, or Corporate and other supporting services.
Each intern opportunity will differ based on the needs of the business area. Generally, interns will be exposed to and be responsible for:
Preparing internal or external financial reports and/or tax returns
Participating in the financial statement close process
Testing and documentation of internal controls for SOX compliance
Variance and trend analysis
Assistance in preparation of budgets and/or forecasts
Assistance with projects
Working towards or have a bachelor's or graduate level degree in Accounting or Finance.
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA.
Intermediate understanding of accounting concepts.
6 or more hours of accounting or finance major coursework completed by the start of the internship.
Intermediate Excel skills.
Meaningful involvement with community or school organizations and/or have work experience.
Double major in Accounting and Finance or technology related degree.
Minimum 3.5 cumulative GPA.
Advanced understanding of accounting concepts.
Advanced Excel skills.
Demonstrated leadership with community organizations and/or through work experience.
Applicants are encouraged to apply early to be considered for a limited number of on-campus interviews at select universities. Eligible applicants who do not participate in on-campus interviews will be considered for interviews held at Principal headquarters or via video/teleconference.
