Secaucus, New JerseyJob Summary:
The Accounting Associate will be responsible for supporting the Accounting Department by providing financial information to management by researching and analyzing accounting data.

Responsibilities:

Key Accountabilities:

  • Prepare bank reconciliations and resolve reconciling items in a timely manner

  • Compile and analyze financial information to prepare entries to general ledger accounts

  • Journalize store level expenses for items such as utilities, store repairs and maintenance, travel expense, and field bonus as well as expenses associated with various credit card accounts

  • Prepare reconciliations for assets and liability accounts, including resolving reconciling items in a timely manner

  • Prepare account analyses on balance sheet and income statement and attend meetings with management to explain account changes, adjustments, and irregularities

  • Assist internal and external auditors in gathering information in an organized and timely manner

  • Complete month-end, quarter-end, and year-end closing activities

  • Perform special projects as assigned by management and senior members of department

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field

  • CPA or CPA candidate preferred

  • 3+ years of experience in related role, public accounting experience a plus

  • Experience with USGAAP and the accrual basis of accounting

Skills and Behaviors:

  • Familiarity with large General Ledger system, SAP, and Hyperion Essbase is a plus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office; advanced skills in Excel

  • Ability to learn quickly and possess a strong interest in growing in accounting and/or finance

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task

  • Ability to adapt to change quickly and easily and shift approach in response to the demands of the situation

  • Demonstrated flexibility especially during month-end and year-end closing processes

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and time sensitive working environment

  • Ability to work independently as well as work well in teams

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to explain financial data and balances

Key Accountabilities: * Perform monthly processes related to core areas (shrink, right of return, sales in transit) * Ensure SOX compliance with processes related to core areas * Complete monthly account reconciliations are completed accurately and timely * Analyze and report on gross margin by channel and division * Develop and maintain department policies and procedures related inventory core areas * Identify and implement process improvements related to inventory control * Participate and drive results in the inventory observation process including Company-wide reporting * Develop, maintain, and publish monthly and quarterly internal reporting Education and Experience: * Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field * 3+ years of experience in a related role * Experience booking journal entries * SAP experience preferred * Experience using Cognos (or similar) business intelligence reporting * Hyperion-Essbase a plus Skills and Behaviors: * Proficient in Microsoft Office; excellent skills in Excel * Strong planning and organizational skills * Quick learner with an interest in growing within the accounting function * Strong analytical and problem solving skills * Ability to adapt to change and easily shift approach in response to business demands * Excellent verbal and written communication skills * Flexibility during month-end and year-end processes, which are fast-paced and extremely time-sensitive Children's Place Secaucus NJ
