The position is directly responsible for the customer billing and accounts receivable functions for a medium sized manufacturing concern. The applicant needs to be familiar with all aspects of a full cycle accounting process, be able to enforce established procedures, analyze, and verify internal records to ensure accurate financial reporting. Secondary duties will include various administrative functions, special projects, and periodic back up of existing staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
The essential duties and responsibilities are listed below. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Process accounts receivable invoicing, credit memos, and statements.

  • Enter Sales Orders

  • Create packing slip (possibly shipping/receiving clerk) and matching with load sheet from AIC.

  • Invoicing customer.

  • Return load invoicing and S3 reconciliation.

  • AR inquiries.

  • Material transfers when shipped/received.

  • Maintain numerous excell files.

  • Limited journal entry preparation.

  • Assist in month end closing process.

  • Various report preparation and account analysis.

  • Research and resolution of accounting related variances.

  • Assist management staff and existing members of the accounting department.

  • Any other duties as assigned (filing / special projects).

Knowledge and Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The individual will possess the following knowledge, characteristics, skills and/or abilities:

  • Proficiency in a variety of computer software applications: Excel, Microsoft Word and Outlook.

  • Experience with accounting ERP systems (SysPro preferred).

  • Intermediate accounting and analytical skills.

  • Good interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to maintain appropriate levels of confidentiality.

  • Establishing priorities and meeting deadlines.

  • Extremely detail oriented with excellent organization skills.

  • Ability to manage a variety of tasks simultaneously.

  • Ability to interpret financial statements.

  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures.

Education and Experience
High School Diploma required, AA degree in Accounting preferred. A minimum of 2 - 4 years of related experience required.

We are seeking a highly motivated Director of Accounting for our Finance Department. The chosen candidate will report directly to the SVP & Chief Financial Officer and be responsible for overseeing Accounting, Accounts Payable, and Payroll. This includes preparation of financial statements and reports, as well as initiatives for future business growth. This position is located in Torrance, CA and relocation assistance is available. Scope of Position: S/he is responsible for implementing and maintaining a system of internal controls that will ensure that company assets are adequately safeguarded and that all financial reporting is prepared in compliance with all financial policies, and US GAAP. Duties and Responsibilities: * Is responsible to ensure that credit risk is balanced with business objectives, targets are met and that only valid claims with proper management authorization are paid. * Oversees the general accounting function, which includes inter-company accounting, cash management/reconciliation, financial reporting, balance sheet management (excluding inventory related items) and royalty management. * Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that the company assets are protected. * Coordinates and oversees the activities relative to internal controls documentation and testing and segregation of duties. * Provides technical accounting GAAP guidance and support to all company entities. At times, this may include involvement in due diligence and other activities surrounding acquisitions/dispositions. * Responsible for proper timing and application of revenue recognition rules. This currently entails a real-time review of each instrument order and its terms for changes needed and determination of proper timing of revenue recognition. Involves significant interaction with Business Development and Divisional Operations. * Ensures that company financial records, under responsibility, are maintained in compliance with company policies and US GAAP. Responsible for reviewing monthly/quarterly account reconciliations and other documents to ensure this compliance. * Ensures that company financial reports are prepared in compliance with policies. * Supervises the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements (including income, property, sales and use, payroll and other local taxes), insurance reports and other reports required by government regulation. Also, assists Corporate Tax, Treasury and Risk departments with dealing with tax related issues and meeting reporting requirements. * Ensures that the computer system continues to operate as required. Involved in validating/designing suggested changes to ensure accounting requirements continue to be met. * Coordinates work relating to both internal and external audits in the periodic review of the company financial records. Is further responsible for the implementation of agreed upon recommendations, related to areas of responsibility, resulting from the audit findings * Ensures that the accounting department is staffed with qualified financial personnel capable of meeting the objectives and responsibilities, noted above. Responsible for continued development of these associates. * Will have direct management responsibility of the following: General Accounting, Accounts Payable and Payroll. Degree/Licenses: * Undergraduate Degree in Accounting * CPA certification Prior Experience: * Private Industry accounting experience * 5+ years of management experience is a must. * Experience in Deltek/Costpoint and Unanet Time Management systems desirable. * Strong knowledge of US GAAP, internal controls and financial reporting is a must. * Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high-performing teams. * Ability to work collaboratively across departmental functions * Excellent communication and leadership skills are mandatory. * Experience in analyzing business performance and developing financial plans within a manufacturing environment desirable. * Experience in Government Accounting (D/FAR, CAS and ITAR Compliance) desirable.
