Accounting Assistant 3 - Minimum Qualifications Waived

The Position

Accounting Assistants perform clerical accounting work in the maintenance of accounts and accounting records for State agencies.

Incumbents function as first-line supervisors who train, supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff; assign and review work; and initiate disciplinary action.

The Accounting Assistant III supervises and participates in the performance of clerical accounting functions in the maintenance of various accounts and records. The individual will review accounting system reports for accuracy and make corrections; and prepare various internal reports. These incumbents rely on a variety of accounting processes, rules, regulations and controls to manage the various accounts. Incumbents gather and extract data from a variety of internal/external sources; resolve conflicting financial and statistical data; prepare detailed supporting documentation for grants and related reports; reconcile complex bank statements; maintain records and balances for general ledger categories; process accounts payable/receivable documents; and assign accounting codes in accordance with complex rules, regulations, contracts and grant requirements.
