The Position

Accountant Technicians perform technical accounts maintenance work for agencies with complex accounting functions or systems. Factors that contribute to complexity include, but are not limited to, federal grant reporting, external bank accounts, cost allocation plans, budget accounts, bank guidelines other than those contained in the State Administrative Manual, enterprise accounting, complex fund accounting, and external reporting requirements.

Incumbents perform in a trainee capacity and acquire the knowledge, skills and abilities required in this occupation. This position is located in the Flamingo Office within the Administrative Services Division of the Department of Motor Vehicles. This position is responsible for performing tasks such as but are not limited to; maintaining/reconciling multiple large and complex spreadsheets, daily balancing of Field Service Technicians cash drawers, office balancing, deposit of monies to financial institutions, banking and financial transaction research/update, update/maintain desk procedure manuals, budget accounts, bank guidelines, adherence to State Administrative Manual, complex fund accounting and external reporting requirements.

The Department of Motor Vehicles is required to comply with NRS 239B.010.1.b which allows an agency to conduct a Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) fingerprint clearance check. Any convictions identified in NRS 205 disqualifies any employee or vendor employee from obtaining access to the DMV Computer System.

Identified are Posting or displaying the Social Security Number of another person, Unlawful acts regarding Personal Identifying Information (PII), Unlawful acts regarding computers and information services, Use of Payment Cards, re-encoders and scanning devices to defraud, Unlawful acts regarding credit cards and debit cards. Convictions in the following are also disqualifying: Fraud, Theft, Embezzlement, Forgery, Counterfeiting, Falsely impersonating another. 49 CFR 1572.103 provides that an agency involved in the issuance of Real ID Driver's Licenses and Identification Cards shall not knowingly employ a person if they have been convicted of any of the felonies listed under this regulation, which include Espionage, Sedition, Treason, Terrorism, Transportation Security Incident, Improper Transportation of a Hazardous Material, Unlawful Possession of Explosives, Murder, Making any Threat Concerning a Lethal Device, or Racketeering.

Additional Real ID criteria provides that the DMV shall not employ a person if they have been convicted of a felony within 7 years of their application or if an applicant was released from incarceration for one of these crimes within five years of their application including Unlawful Firearm Violations, Extortion, Fraud, Bribery, Smuggling, Immigration Violations, Distribution of Controlled Substances, Arson, Kidnapping, Rape or Sexual Abuse, Assault With Intent to Kill, Robbery or Fraudulent Seaport Entry. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items.

To Qualify:

In order to be qualified, you must meet the following requirements:

Education and Experience (Minimum Qualifications) Graduation from high school supplemented by 6 college credits in beginning accounting and two years of financial records maintenance experience which includes such duties as controlling accounts payable/receivable; preparing financial reports for internal management use; and reconciling complex accounts; OR two years of experience as an Accounting Assistant III in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR one year as an Accounting Assistant IV in Nevada State service which includes 6 college credits in beginning accounting; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above which must have included 6 college credits in beginning accounting. Special Requirements A pre-employment criminal history check and fingerprinting are required. Persons offered employment in this position will be required to pay for these items. A State of Nevada/FBI background check will be required of the selected applicant. Transcripts of college credits are required.
