Summary: Prepares/distributes payroll for plant workforce accurately and in a timely manner. Performs accounts payable functions in support of plant. Apply principles of cost accounting to provide detailed cost information not supplied by general accounting systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following, but not intended to be an all inclusive list. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Plans, reviews and collects data to determine costs of business activity including raw material purchases, inventory, and spending.

  • Input and maintain the coal bill of materials in the system. Process all coal, freight and processing invoices. Analyse changes in the coal FIFO layer for accuracy.

  • Prepare Power and Coke invoices in a timely manner for approval by the Plant Controller. Invoice documentation should include appropriate level of back-up and analysis to ensure invoiced amounts are accurate. Invoices should be accurately entered into GP. Invoices need to be maintained in an organized manner for subsequent review by plant personnel, customers and auditors.

  • Prepare various accounting and financial reports that are required or requested by corporate and plant personnel in order to effectively manage the business and control plant costs.

  • Compile cost information to be used in the operating budget preparation.

  • Estimate new and proposed product or service costs.

  • Assist in the quarterly coal inventory reconciliation process. This includes observing the inventory, calculating inventory adjustments, performing analysis on adjustments to ensure they are reasonable. Input the necessary adjustments after they have been approved.

  • Assist Corporate Accounting Manager by providing support with Concur and Procard issues.

  • Handle all activities related to processing payroll including but not limited to data entry of time, vacation, holidays, etc., payroll corrections, deductions and garnishments, time reconciliation, payroll audits, and check distribution

  • Be able to interrupt payroll and enforce them in a consistent manner.

  • Maintain all payroll records, timesheets, and other supporting documentation as required by law and according to company policy.

  • Assist employees with payroll issues in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.

  • Process invoices in GP and Maximo in a timely manner.

  • Process Local Procard transactions for sweep into GL accounts.

  • Interacts with vendors regarding payment or material issues

  • Assists in monthly closing activities, including journal entries, analysis, and account reconciliations

  • Performs other duties as assigned

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university; or 2 to 5 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • Language Ability: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, or regulatory agencies. Must have effective oral communication and presentation skills.

  • Math Ability: Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, discounts, interest, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

  • Reasoning Ability: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate technical data and communicate results in layman's terms, creative writing; strong interpersonal skills. Attention to detail a must.

  • Computer Skills:
    To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook; Inventory software and Manufacturing software. Knowledge of Great Plains software highly desirable
