Position Summary & Responsibilities:
Position Summary:
The fiscal department within the Kansas Department of Commerce is looking to fill an Account position. This position is responsible for accounts payable, ensure coding is correct in the accounting system, reviews travel vouchers for compliance with state regulations statutes. Audit all checks and on-line receipts and provides necessary training to agency staff to ensure fiscal items are completed correctly.
Job Responsibilities may include but are not limited to the following:
Reviews payment vouchers (accounts payable) for compliance with state regulations, statutes and approved reimbursement criteria. Verifies that the proper documentation is accompanying the vouchers and available for review as required. Prepares calculations for review that may accompany some payment vouchers. Ensures accuracy of coding into the accounting system and documents the payment voucher number. This includes all payables to external suppliers, inter-agency (inter-funds), P-card reconciliation and indirect cost transfers.
Reviews travel vouchers for compliance with state regulations statutes and approved reimbursement criteria. Verifies that the proper documentation is accompanying the vouchers and available for review as required. Ensures accuracy of coding into the accounting system and documents the voucher number.
Audits all receipts for compliance with state regulations and statues. Verifies that proper documentation is provided.
Maintains position funding.
Provides any training necessary to agency staff to ensure fiscal items are completed in accordance with state regulations including submission of the required back up documentation on all vouchers.
Minimum Qualifications: Licensing & Certification:
Two years of experience in professional accounting/auditing work.
Twenty-four (24) hours coursework in finance, business administration or accounting may be substituted for experience.
Working knowledge of general accounting principles, practices and standards, ability to analyze and interpret financial report information and reconcile discrepancies in financial records, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
Must have advanced experience in using Excel, including the ability to use formulas such as, but not limited to VLOOKUP and ROUND and the ability to create and use pivot tables.
Must have strong organizational/multi-tasking skills and possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
