Position Summary:

The Senior Accountant provides accounting support to the College of Western Idaho and the CWI Foundation. This position will ensure accurate reporting and appropriate internal control procedures according to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Financial Accounting Standard Board (FASB) Standards. The Senior Accountant will assist with post award grant compliance with Uniform Guidance, acts as the primary point of contact for general accounting inquiries, manages financial data, completes internal and external financial reports, reconciles bank and investment accounts, and performs other general accounting functions while working closely with other College staff and faculty as well as the CWI Foundation team.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and analyze accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness and assist with the preparation of the CWI Foundation budget.

  • Develop and maintain procedures and internal controls for CWI Foundation.

  • Prepare journal entries and perform general ledger account reconciliations and analysis on a timely basis for the College and CWI Foundation. This could include cash accounts, bonds, receivables, and fixed assets.

  • Perform grant accounting from award to close out in accordance with federal, state, local or other applicable grant standards and regulations.

  • Monitor balances in cash accounts, analyze and interpret investment activity, accurately record activity, and prepare monthly reports to present to management and CWI Foundation Board of Directors.

  • Ensure all donations including restricted, endowed, in-kind, stock, deferred gifts and annuities are recorded and administered properly, and the donor intentions are observed.

  • Prepare the work papers, footnotes and financial statements for the annual audit of the CWI Foundation including annual 990 filing and assist in the preparation of the College audit.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field or equivalent education and/or experience.

  • A strong accounting background is required, including account reconciliation, financial analysis, and experience with year-end audit.

  • 2 years of non-profit/FASB accounting experience required.

  • The candidate must be flexible and willing to adapt to a rapidly changing environment.

  • The candidate must be detail-oriented, have the ability to maintain composure under pressure and be able to prioritize multiple tasks.

  • Demonstrated analytical ability and strong organizational and communication skills.

  • Experience in the accounting field in higher education preferred.

  • Knowledge of IRS Charitable Contribution regulations and CASE standards preferred.

  • Experience in grants accounting including a working knowledge of Federal compliance regulations preferred.

  • Experience in investment accounting preferred.
